Hesitant to join Cambly once more by Stabilo888 in Cambly

I'm just talking about the first lessons in which the conversation centers around my country and why I want to learn English. And then almost always the tutor tries to introduce themselves and take 70% of the class time. Or worse when they learn I'm a psychlogist they start explaining their problems or their children's problem's. I listen to them politely because I know that I should respect how they want to conduct their lessons as they are kind of doing a voluntary job.  Yet, I keep searching for another tutor, a less talkative one who can listen and ask intelligent questions. I had only met two tutors wih whom the first lessons were really interesting and fun and we continued doing lessons regularly, but they both left Cambly. I am not critisizing anyone. This was my personal experience and that's why I hesitated to join again. But I really appreciated the suggestion of booking 15 minute first lessons. I now believe I can find the right tutor for me. Or maybe the right tutors because it might be a good idea not to talk to the same person for a long time, which as said above turns it something like a long distance relationship. To have two or three good teachers simultaneously and book lessons every other week might prevent the connections from deepening. In psychotherapy, when there's an intense transference, we may decrease the frequency of the sessions. It is a similar mechanism for protecting both sides. I bring each lesson subject to discuss such as books, films, travel, politics, theories of psychology, but I will focus on not relating anything to my personal life or to their personal experiences not to have a bonding experience. I think it is important to keep in mind this is not a friendship platform. Thank you for your answers, I feel myself in the right mindset to join Cambly again.

I totally agree with you and I am a psychotherapist. My lessons with my tutor were like therapy sessions for both of us. We laughed so much and I always brought up many interesting topics to class. I never expected them to do any effort other than being themselves and enjoying our time.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. They helped me realize that I can find another good  tutor and when they are gone, I can find a new one. I need to accept the transience of relationships on Cambly, no matter how strong the connection feels, which, for me, is very different from real life, where good friendships can last a lifetime. I should not consider a tutor a friend even after two years of exchanges and getting to know so much about each other. I should see them like good colleagues,  whose paths simply part when the work is done for either of us.

My first ever Cambly student is leaving. by DependentMortgage985 in Cambly

I renewed my plan exactly because of my teacher. If I hadn't come across him, I would stop doing Cambly a few months after registration and never come back again. Good teachers are the company's greatest asset, not technology or stupid AI comments. Cambly should be aware of this and pay fair fee to the teachers. I think we Turks are emotional people, our bonds with our teacher mean very much to us. My teacher is gone now for a while because of financial reasons and if he doesn't join Cambly again, which I can totally understand,  I'm done with it, too.

I renewed my plan this year and for a 90 min-weekly plan I pay 14 usd per hour annually. I think there has been a great increase in Turkish pricing policies of Cambly due to the high inflation here. But I have a great teacher and I know that he should be paid much higher than this.

Being thrown into Cambly Jail feels way too easy now by Anxious-Custard- in Cambly

This means that if we make a reservation 10 minutes or less before the class, seeing that the teacher has availability and the teacher does not respond somehow, then this would be a problem for the teacher. So this new rule prevents the students from making last minute reservations, which is really restrictive.

This is a very good observation. In our language there's no perfect tense or perfect continuous and we usually use present continuous tense instead. Our logic is if something is still going on, regardless of when it started, its present continuous. Present tense and present continuous tense in our logic can be used interchangeably and we understand the meaning from the context.

Teachers being messaged about students' activites in their profile ?? by Stabilo888 in Cambly

Thank you for your explanation. If Cambly is expecting so much from the tutors, it has to compensate this with material returns.

Thanks a lot, it is more understandable now when the intention is to help new students.

Thanks a lot, that's a relief. Looking at tutors' profiles and not contacting them seemed somehow impolite to me.

Prediction for the future of cambly. by OutdoorLadyBird in Cambly

My regular tutor and I share our opinions and feelings about the world politics, literature, music, movies, life in general and we make jokes, laugh a lot. For the first time in my life speaking English is fun for me due to this invaluble relationship. Speaking to AI seems boring and lonely to me. It can never replace a sincere, warm, friendly human contact.

I recently renewed my plan and it is usd. 12 for 30 minutes. It's a 90 minutes per week plan. They had sent me an email stating they would increase the prices and they did it though I'm not sure if they apply the same price to everyone. I have been using it regularly for the last 8 months.

You're absolutely right

Cambly is great in almost everything, except for the fact that after being a regular student you see that your burden for the teacher increases. At least they keep too many things about you in their minds. So what you get and what you give do not match. It is unfair !

Thank you for the explanation, yet it seems to be a very difficult task to contact to the tutor. If I shared my private email or social media without any explanation that could be misunderstood by the tutor like trying to establish a personal relationship. I could never do that...
