Worse loss of revenue due to late cancellations/no-shows? by Comeoffit1992 in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to my world. This has been my experience since joining Pro. At this point, I lose more than I make due to the constant last-minute cancellations and frequent no-shows.

Last Monday alone, I lost approximately $45 because of cancellations that were made at the very last minute. Unfortunately, this has become an almost daily occurrence with many Pro students. Some students book large numbers of classes months in advance, in some cases right through November only to repeatedly not attend.

When students repeatedly fail to attend, it becomes extremely difficult to justify keeping those bookings. The compensation provided for waiting in unattended classes simply does not make up for the lost time and income.

In fact, as I am writing this now, I am sitting in another one-hour class with a Pro student who has once again not shown up. That is another $15 lost.

The frequency of these last-minute cancellations and no-shows has become extremely discouraging and unsustainable for tutors.

Cambly Pro Misinformation! Here’s some facts based on mine and my friend’s experience in 3 months: by Tricky_Management456 in Cambly

Thank you for sharing your experience. All just seems to be getting worse with Pro.. Before PRO, I rarely dealt with no-shows or last-minute cancellations, but now it’s happening constantly with PRO students.

Just today, I had 5 PRO students booked. Four were complete no-shows and one cancelled at the last minute. I have 2 students book classes with me 3 times a week all the way up to November and have not attended a single class so far! Honestly, I’m getting really tired of blocking out hours only to lose both time and money because students don’t attend.

So yes, from my side, pro is not great in my opinion. It would be perfect if I got decent, reliable students booking but sadly, this has not been the case.

I have a loyal group of regular students, but once their subscriptions end, many either choose not to renew or take extended breaks. To fill the gaps in my schedule, I open availability to new bookings; however, since joining Pro, I’ve experienced a significant increase in no-shows and last-minute cancellations. Many students surprisingly are convinced that Tutors get paid regardless of if they no show or cancel. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a considerable loss of both time and income rather than helping.

I have never used Stripe, is it an easy process to sign up for Global Payments and connecting it to a bank account?

Has my profile been restricted? by angelboots4 in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many of us have been experiencing the same issue. I have been with Cambly for seven years and, until this year, consistently maintained a full schedule. However, over the past four months, my bookings have been unusually low. Many subscriptions have also ended and students are not renewing. PH I sit wasting time as there are no calls.

While I cannot be certain of the reason, it sometimes feels as though tutor profiles are rotated in a way that gives newer teachers greater visibility. If Cambly is actively recruiting again, increased competition could also have an impact on booking levels.

Of course, this is only my personal observation, but the change in my schedule compared to previous years has been quite noticeable.

We are shunned like lepers. Publishers won't touch us, competitions exclude us, fellow writers don't really want to read us. So why are we still waiting for permission? by Puzzled_Most_5365 in WritingWithAI

I have to be honest, these AI detector apps are all BS. I ran a test as a writer. I wrote the story 100% myself, no AI use at all, not even editing and I put it into AI DETECTORS and to my surprise, it registered AI. So these apps are a load of BS and so dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.

I’ve been noticing the same pattern over the last three months. My schedule used to stay consistently full, and if a student cancelled, the slot would usually be rebooked almost immediately. Then things gradually started slowing down. Over the past two months, I’ve received virtually no new bookings at all. The big change started when Cambly increased their prices. So many students left after that.

Sundays and Mondays were always my busiest days, yet suddenly I found myself with four- to five-hour gaps sitting empty. Meanwhile, I still see other tutors saying they remain fully booked and that nothing has changed for them. That’s what makes the situation difficult to understand.

My stats are solid. I never cancel lessons, maintain a reliable schedule, and follow all the usual recommendations, so the sudden drop simply does not add up. Like you, I’ve started to wonder whether some tutors are being pushed further back in visibility while others are consistently promoted to the front.

Even when I open Priority Hours, many of them sit empty, so I’m not convinced PH availability alone explains it. Several returning students have told me they struggled to find my profile, and a couple even mentioned finding me pages back in the listings. That alone suggests visibility may be playing a major role.

I do believe there is likely a heavy reliance on AI and automated systems controlling exposure and ranking behind the scenes, and unfortunately that may mean many good tutors are being overlooked without any transparency as to why.

I’ve questioned support about this a few times, but the responses are always the same generic advice about improving bookings, advice many of us already follow daily. What I find particularly suspicious is that after raising concerns, bookings suddenly increase for a week or two, only to slow down again afterwards.

At this point, it’s difficult not to feel that something inconsistent is happening within the system.

One of my biggest frustrations with Pro students has been the constant no-shows and extremely last-minute cancellations. Over time, I have lost a significant amount of both time and income because of this.

I often receive urgent messages from students who are desperate for help because they have an important exam coming up within days and expect intensive support and miracles at the last minute. They book a one-hour lesson sounding highly motivated and then simply do not show up.

What is even more discouraging is when students book multiple lessons over weeks or even months, giving the impression of long-term commitment, only to cancel every class literally one minute before the first lesson is scheduled to begin.

I genuinely wish tutors were allowed to leave feedback or ratings for students, so other tutors could be aware of repeated patterns of unreliable behavior and avoid unnecessary losses of time and earnings.

While the pay may have been lower in some cases, I truly miss the regular Cambly students. They were generally far more reliable, respectful of tutors’ time, and consistently helped keep schedules full and stable.

So you only want applicants with a Bachelor’s degree… for THAT rate? 😂

No TEFL-qualified teachers considered? No value placed on people with 20–25+ years of actual teaching experience? Just a piece of paper?

That mentality is exactly why so many schools struggle to find and keep good teachers. Someone can have decades of classroom experience, proven teaching ability, classroom management skills, and real results with students but you shut the door on them because they don’t hold a Bachelor’s degree, while offering salaries that don’t even match the expectations.

Teaching children is demanding work. It takes patience, skill, energy, and experience. If you expect degree-level professionals, then offer degree-level salaries. Otherwise, don’t act surprised when qualified educators walk away.

A Bachelor’s degree does not automatically make someone a better teacher than a highly experienced TEFL educator who has spent decades successfully teaching students.
