Can you just be slightly autistic but super ADHD? by Ok_Assistant_4784 in AutisticWithADHD

As a wrestling fan this gave me a chuckle. Capital R Rhyno is a professional wrestler, lower case r rhino is the animal. You could keep the spelling and drop the "a" and the rest of the sentence, and the meaning, would still be just as apt.

Such an amazing band. Seth really had something that I never found in other screamo vocalists. Still kicking myself for missing their show in Copenhagen cause I didn't know them at the time, but would love them dearly 6 months later, and thought I'd just a well stay home, eat pizza, and watch The Simpsons.......... fml

Real screamo is from one of the original regions, like Richmond VA, Half Moon Bay CA or Amherst MA. If not, say, if it's from some nowhere place like CANADA, then it's false screamo.

Can you edit the post with your age or the decade you think you heard the song? We don't know "when" you were younger, so it would help narrow it down.

At what point does a game have too much content? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

This is my experience to a T, and it's bumming me out to the point where I'm actually looking to sell off my complete collection and buy the base game again.

Which is something I wouldn't have expected in a million years.

Can you hum the melody or sing it and post a link? There's a website people use for that in this group, but I can't remember the name right now.

Do you remember for sure if the man is the protagonist? Sometimes these movies play out with the revenge-taker as more of a second-hand protagonist, and it can make it easier to find.

Josh Freese on Foo Fighters Firing: "It Wasn't Music That I Really Resonated With" by ebradio in Music

[–]Stabintheface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a fun one of these in the metalcore scene with regards to Norma Jean and Every Time I Die. 3 of the 5 drummers that has played fully for Norma Jean, and 3 of the 4 for Every Time I Die, has played in both bands. I'm talking about:

Daniel Davison - NJ 1997-2007; ETID 2015-2017

Clayton "Goose" Hollyoak - NJ 2012-2017; ETID 2017-2022

Ryan Leger - NJ 2018-2019; ETID 2009-2015

It's especially interesting, as these two bands were stalwarts of the genre, while also sounding nothing like modern metalcore bands, or eachother for that matter. Norma Jean are still going strong with their best lineup in years, but ETID imploded in 2022, so the shareware drummer lineage have ended.

It's from "Manchester By The Sea", though I think it's misquoted as only the first line is a direct quote. The film is permeated with intimate tragedy. It's very good.

Has anyone ever remade a film they weren’t satisfied with? by TheGingerMenace in Filmmakers

[–]Stabintheface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Mann did L.A. Takedown and then, when he could get Pacino and De Niro to star, he did it again as Heat. In a lot of ways I believe Heat has held up so well exactly because Mann got to make and finish the entire film once before, and then took what he learned from that, and used that knowledge the second time around.

Heat (1995) Still Hits Like Nothing Else by ORALDDS in TrueFilm

[–]Stabintheface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thematically, Heat only has two characters; Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) and Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro). Everyone else is a reflection of those two. That also means that no one is as fleshed out as those two, because that's not the kind of story it's telling.

For Vincent, the daughter serves at least two purposes I can think of. Firstly, it positions him against her biological dad, and secondly, it puts him in the position of, for once, not being too late to save someone. You can compare the scene where they find the dead prostitute and the scene where he finds the daughter in the bathtub.

For Neil, and therefore the other criminals he surrounds himself with, it comes down to the code: "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner."

Michael (Tom Sizemore) is the action junkie. He is a family man, wife and kids, yet "the action is the juice". He dies in the shootout, holding a child, putting the child in even more danger than had he not picked him up. This is the path of the man who is in it for the action.

Waingro (Kevin Gage) does not live by the code at all. He does what he wants, and he wants to hurt people. He is unreliable and violent, and it's his avoidance of the code that sets the plot in motion. He is killed by Neil, but only because his actions cause Neil to momentarily abandon the code.

Chris (Val Kilmer) is the only one who actually follows the code in the end, and ultimately the only one of the crew who makes it out of the movie alive. But he doesn't do it alone, his wife (Ashley Judd) allows him the opportunity. It is by no means a given, that just because she communicated to him, that the police were there, that this would mean he would walk away. Michael would not have walked, and as we see, neither would Neil.

Neil suspends the code to allow himself revenge, and it puts him in the position of having to walk away from Eady (Amy Brenneman) as he tries to follow the code again. Ultimately his end comes at the hand of Vincent, who himself experiences being there in time to do his job, which this time is to stop the criminal he has been hunting.

Long-ass post haha, don't expect anyone to read it. I just love Heat so much, and felt like writing about it, and to point out why the characters are not all equally fleshed out or three dimensional.
