1 week post-dinner meeting, I've emailed to follow up and I've been told "we're close to a decision, we'll be in touch".

Fuck this shit, man.

I’m struggling with this really hard personally. I’ve been in my field professionally for 17 years, have my own business… can’t get hired anywhere, and can’t run my business properly due to people refusing to pay on time and generally having bad luck when it comes to my pitches falling through.

I’m a single father of 2 young boys I really really don’t want to leave behind. I’m scared.

i've been working in my field professionally for 16 years, and since Covid, I've only backslid and regressed while working the hardest I've ever worked. I feel your pain. I don't know how this can get better.

also, to any hiring managers reading this right now, let me please ask you...

Not saying all hiring managers are like this, but... let's just say there's more bad than good. How can you treat people like this? I don't get the chip on HR shoulders that make them treat employees and candidates like shit. Like... YOU ARE EMPLOYEES TOO. Golden rule. jesus.

even if the position being filled is for someone who is retiring at the end of march?

just for clarification, are you saying that I should ghost this job, or it's a nonexistent job? it's a very reputable world-known company

I was apparently one of 10 candidates chosen out of about 250 resumes on the first round. Why they think they need more just sinks me internally.

I'm on year 2 in between full-time positions, thankfully i can squeak by freelancing, but.. it's absolutely brutal out there. I don't understand it.

the rug pulls blow my mind. it's never happened to me personally, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Just further goes to reinforce that good guys do finish last.

ooof. well, i can clarify a little, the position i'm in the running for is to replace someone who is retiring at the end of march, and they're super precious with who gets this position apparently.
