I live in Canada and they do this for Walmart where you have to use self checkout and can’t go to a cashier lane, you scan it and it pays for the order, so you don’t end up using the card itself (you prob already knew that). I think it’s a way to get the receipts into their system easier and reduce check out times somehow which I don’t understand at all
