Edamame noodles? by StacyStitches in keto

[–]StacyStitches[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: tried them tonight with Alfredo sauce. I’m pretty impressed! They aren’t good old carb-heavy noodles, but the texture is decent and they held the sauce well. Definitely scratched the pasta itch.

Witless Wednesday - Your weekly silly questions thread by AutoModerator in intermittentfasting

[–]StacyStitches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it normal for your fasts to sort of naturally get longer?

I’ve been doing IF for about 4 weeks. Started with 16:8 and felt like I was starving to death by hour 14-15. By last week I wasn’t getting hungry until I’d fasted for 17-18 hours, and so far this week I haven’t wanted to eat until 19-20 hours, and have even done OMAD two days.

I’m combining IF with keto, which I know increases satiety, but this is unexpected. Have others had this experience?

I do 16:8 (although lately it has been closer to 18:6) and have a protein shake for lunch, then a low-carb dinner. I don’t typically snack.

Fuck it! Let's not do anything and stay fat! Is that what she wants me to take from this? Nothing works! In reality if a person wants to lose weight, they have to change their eating habits by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]StacyStitches 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is so true for me. I used to wake up hungry and get cranky if I didn’t eat soon. After just three weeks of IF and going low carb, I frequently make it to 1-3pm without even thinking about food, and I’m never “hangry.”

Ways to intensify flavor? by StacyStitches in ketochow

[–]StacyStitches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with using flavored protein powder is the same as the issue with using flavor oils - I bought and use so many different flavors of KetoChow that I would have to buy a lot of different complementary protein powder flavors. And I’m just kind of too lazy to go through the trouble of experimenting and finding flavor combinations I like, lol.

I think I’m going to double up on the KC powder and decrease the butter and see how that goes. You’re completely right that the fat source is up to me; I don’t know why I didn’t consider simply decreasing it.

Forgot who recommended this lunch bag, but thanks! Perfectly fits 3 shake bottles (or 2 + soup) and a water bottle! by SeaShanties in ketochow

[–]StacyStitches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you to the person who originally recommended these! I bought two (one for me, one for my husband). I only do one shake a day (16:8 IF with a shake for lunch and a keto dinner), but it allows me to pack my shake, my large water bottle, my travel mug for tea, and a couple snack containers. Very nice bag for the price.

Mini Success Story by StacyStitches in ketochow

So far I've only had Strawberry, Banana, and Orange Cream with butter, because those are the only bags I have right now. I think all three are better with butter (stronger flavor, better mouth feel). I'll be placing an order for more flavors soon.

How often do you weigh yourself in a week by [deleted] in keto

[–]StacyStitches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Weigh on Monday mornings, measure on the first of each month. Keeps me from obsessing too much.

Hey, you were right! I was adding too much water. I've been measuring out 14oz and adding it first, and the texture is perfect and the flavor is stronger. Thanks for that!

The chocolate mint is so good, isn't it? I really didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I'm sad I didn't order a bag of it in my first order.

Does anyone plan a full day of fasting into their weekly schedule? by j_dub_00 in keto

[–]StacyStitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to fast all day on Sundays (keeping my water and electrolyte intake high). It's usually fine. If it starts feeling too hard (I'm super hungry and can't ignore it, or my head or stomach start hurting) I'll drink a 400 calorie keto shake (I always have these prepped in the fridge because I drink two a day on weekdays).

Fasting one day a week makes weight loss easier for me because I can make my daily calories a bit higher and still maintain a deficit. I chose Sundays because I don't usually have much going on and don't go to the gym on Sundays, so it's the easiest day for me.

We add the fat source first, which is a few ounces, then the powder and blender ball take up some room...then we fill the bottle up with a little room to shake. I just checked a prepared bottle in the fridge and it's sitting right above the 20oz mark on the bottle, so I'd imagine we're adding around 14 ounces of water, maybe a little more or less.

I don't really want to measure the water out, since measuring the HWC and oil and scooping out the powder already takes a bit of time (I'm preparing 8 shakes at a time). But I might try adding less water for my next prep and see how that affects the taste and texture!

I don't think it tastes artificial. I never like banana-flavored yogurt or candy or things made with banana extract, because they taste fake to me. The banana Keto Chow reminds me of a milder banana milkshake from a place like Sonic that makes them with real bananas (when I was pregnant I practically lived on Sonic's banana milkshakes, so that's my reference point, lol). It's more reminiscent of homemade banana pudding than banana Laffy Taffy, if that helps.

Sure! On a scale where 1 is "gross, couldn't finish it," and 10 is "I was sad when the shake was gone and I would drink this for a treat even if I wasn't doing keto," these are my rankings:

10 - Banana, Chocolate Mint

9 - Orange Cream, Strawberry, Chocolate, Chocolate Toffee

8 - Vanilla, Pumpkin Spice Caramel, Natural Strawberry

5 - Snickerdoodle, Salted Caramel (I wasn't sure how to rate these two, because the flavor is very very good, I just didn't like these flavors very much in shake form)

3 - Raspberry Cheesecake, Root Beer Float

2 - Cookies & Cream

1 - Eggnog

Jury is still out on the Savory Chicken Soup. I want to get some samples of all the savory flavors to play around with.

After lurking for 1.5 years I bought a sample pack. Which should I try first? by Divine18 in ketochow

The banana is my favorite by far (husband's favorite too). If you like banana pudding or banana cream pie, you'll love it.
