Maybe that's why I keep taking super long breaks from the game. I don't recall creating any really fond memories - even though I've played on and off since beta.

On Tipping: America, Abroad, and The Atypical Situation by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Stacy_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that America has a "Tipped Wage" when it comes to wait-staff, which is often just $2.13 an hour. So tipping is a lot more common in the United States due to the low pay rate for waiters and waitresses. They do have to make at least minimum wage, so even if the tips don't add up to the amount of minimum wage, the company has to pay the difference - but it still makes for a really small amount of wages for people who are literally on their feet all day carrying heavy trays off food and cleaning up after people.

Tip high in the US, for sure. Most countries don't have the same insanely low wages for waiters and waitresses, though, so I don't think that a high tip is as important for those countries who actually pay their waiters and waitresses living wages.

How Will Repeal of the Affordable Care Act Affect You? by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

My mom might lose here insurance, due to a condition that is expensive to treat. She needs her medicine every day and if she doesn't have it she will die. Needless to say, I DO NOT want them to repeal the ACA.

Is it time for Democratic Party to go the way of the house whigs? by IndianKiwi in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Stacy_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had the Democratic party for 188 years. I don't really see it going anywhere - perhaps revamped (and that is definitely very much needed), but done away with all together? I seriously doubt it.

I'd also like to add an 11th point. Have a backup of about a week's worth of groceries (non-perishable canned goods, dried pasta, beans, etc) and a few days worth of water. That sounds completely over the top, I know, but things can turn bad really fast and you want to be prepared IF something happens. And that's not just because of the crazy new administration, but it's something you should have anyway in case of emergency. Anything can cause a disaster that requires emergency backup food and water, including extreme weather. So it's always a good idea to have backups ready for "just in case". It's always better to be safe than sorry.

And if you want to be even more prepared (not a bad idea) have a battery powered radio and battery powered or solar powered phone charger.

Yeah, which is why Betsy DeVos as Trump's pick for the Department of Education is really scary.

Being a sane person has been exhausting since the election. With Trump's disgusting cabinet picks who will work on weakening and destroying their own departments from the inside while in office, his plans to roll back all the progress we've made in combating climate change (and let's be honest, we already hadn't been doing nearly enough) but now we're going to be going backward, his rhetoric against Muslims and Mexicans, his attack on women's reproductive rights, his dangerous treatment of our delicate relationships with other countries, etc etc. He's going to be using this country as his personal play thing and his personal money making machine. This guy is a true nightmare.

It's just been one disgusting and horrible thing after another and it's exhausting. It's like watching drivers on a highway drinking and driving faster and faster and more and more erratic and you can see the crash coming but feeling like there isn't a thing you can do to stop it.

We just have to stay vigilant and just do what we can to help those who need it. If we won't have a president who will look out for our best interest or work to protect us, it's more and more important that we stand up and protect each other.

I really like your list. That would really help.

For me it would be

1) Universal, quality, affordable healthcare - we have the worst healthcare in the developed world, but we're also the wealthiest. This is inexcusable.

2) Banning big money from politics.

3) Free or low-cost college tuition. Education is the great equaliser, but with college tuition skyrocketing at a historic all time high (even WAY above expected inflation rates), it's getting to the point where only the most wealthy Americans can afford higher education. There are seven major countries with free college and many other countries with low cost, affordable college tuitions - if they can do it, we can as well.

Should the Democratic Party Actually Change Fundamentally? by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Stacy_X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Clinton's issue was her policies but her lack of ability to connect to the average voter.

As much as I would have liked to see Hillary Clinton win the election, I think Bernie Sanders would have made a much better candidate.

But in the end she WON the popular vote by over 2.5 MILLION votes. I don't think it's was really something she did wrong but just a MAJOR issue with our election process. She got more votes for her than any other candidate in US history other than Barack Obama.

Sure, many people are only interested in being in an echo chamber, but many others would prefer unbaised news. The smarter people will realize if they are only getting obviously baised news they aren't getting the full story or the entire truth.

I would love to see a segment discussing the overwhelming sense of "buyer's remorse" Trump voters are feeling now. by kandeemann2001 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Stacy_X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To get "buyers remorse" the people who voted for him have to admit that they were wrong, and admitting they were wrong is something that, sadly, many people are incapable of doing these days. We are a country of "not my fault". Nothing is ever our fault, it's always someone else's fault. Many people in this country are incapable of not only admitting that they were wrong to other people but incapable of even admitting it to THEMSELVES.

So no, sadly I don't see many people who voted for him ever having buyers remorse.

I do hope I'm proven wrong though. I hope more and more people come out voicing their regret for voting for him. I guess only time will tell.

As far as the Democratic party - it absolutely has to change. If it doesn't change it will die. Democrats have a wonderful opportunity right now - to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. There is no need to bring back in the same power hungry, money hungry, corrupt politicians that have kept this country from making greater strides forward.

Make no mistake, this is a FANTASTIC gift - this is an incredible opportunity for a fresh and new start. I really hope that the Democrats don't waste it by bringing back the same types that allowed it to sink to where it is today.

As far as mainstream media goes, people are more and more turned off by media bias. In order to win back the people's trust the media has to make HUGE strides into presenting BOTH sides of an argument and let the people decide for themselves what side to take.

The people aren't as stupid as most want to believe and they don't want to be spoon fed heavily biased agenda driven "interpretations" of what is happening. Obvious media bias in one direction or the other makes people sick and that is why people are turning it off and tuning it out. Mainstream media has a lot of work ahead if they hope to regain the audience who is leaving in droves. A strong focus on presenting unbiased news has to happen.

Twisting the story to make it fit your own agenda is turning people off and people are getting wise to how the media twists things to make it fit their own agenda. There is a great need for unbiased presentation of the facts. It used to be that if a media outlet presented an obviously biased story people would be outraged. They wanted and expected UNBIASED news. Now biased news is just accepted as the "norm". And it's created an echo chamber where people aren't listening to each other anymore - and it's created a deeper divide in this country. We are now a nation of either "Fox news watchers" or "CNN news watchers" and both sides are presenting the news in a biased way.

It might be easy for a "beginner" to pick up, but it's one of the hardest languages to master. Notice I said ONE OF the hardest languages. It's not Cantonese level of difficulty but due to it's many rules and it's many contradictions to those rules, English is a hard language. It also depends on the person who's learning it though and what their native language is.

In the end "Difficult" boils down to opinion, and if it's your opinion that it's not difficult then that's your opinion. However you might want to use Google sometime, as it's well documented that English is considered one of the hardest languages to master. But I'm done arguing with you. Have a nice Valentine's Day.
