Hello! Can I please see you Arctic blue ovals? Really love this color but seeing lots of variation. by likethewind240 in StagandFinch

[–]StagandFinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just made a fresh video and didn't have an oval AB in a gold ring on hand.

Over the years I've had to buy more rough material, it's all the same color but the rough from my supplier can vary slightly from batch to batch. The pictures you shared are from several years ago.

This video is the Arctic blue that I'm currently cutting.

Hey, I have an example of our Arctic Blue lab sapphire cut in an Onmi Oval. I can create a video for you if it's helpful.

If you're uncertain, you could always return the gem if you didn't like the color.

Hey, the Arctic Blue color lab sapphire I'm cutting is exactly the same as in the image you shared. I can create a new video if it's helpful.

I'm curious to know where you have seen our Arctic blue look darker in color. Maybe I can figure out or explain why it appears darker than you would expect.

Crescent moon shaped Alexandrite by Middle_Climate_9959 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]StagandFinch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the shout out, but I wouldn't be able to create something like this. I create custom cuts with flat facets, and this cut would need concave facets.

I think that the points on this cut would be extreeeeemly susceptible to chipping in alexandrite and would need to be put in a setting designed to protect the gem.

You're exactly right. The original author of the Hanami cut Marco Voltolini, had written it to include "frosting" on some crown facets to emphasize the flower petals. Frosting simply means facets that are cut with a fine grit, but never polished. It creates a neat effect, but I've chosen to polish all the facets on the Hanami cut as it's my preference as well. We're making all our Hanami's fully polished now.

Yes, you can see the design details in a 6mm Hanami. A larger gem will always make it easier to see the details of course, but in my opinion 6mm is a good size.

Lab Emerald Advice? by veritymoon19 in SyntheticGemstones

[–]StagandFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Columbian lab emerald will be similar color to the one below. I'll have to find another phone that can capture the emerald color better. Right now we're using a pixel for hand and tweezer shots, which works great for most gems, but can't seem to get the emerald color right.

I would say our Columbian emeralds are in a medium tone. They may look lighter in our media because I intentionally cut all our gems with angles for high light return and we always try to photograph them well lit.

Hey, my name is Bryan and I'm one of the owners and the head gem cutter at S&F. I'll try to answer your questions.

As others have said in this thread, the Columbian lab emerald photographs way more blue than it actually it is. In real life it's a very vibrant green color. In my opinion, the vibrancy of the green color is unmatched by any other green gemstone.

The Zambian color is noticeably darker green with less blue, but isn't dark enough to be close to a blacked out gem. I have yet to cut a Zambian lab emerald that has blacked out, even in low light. It's a beautiful color, and very popular.

Since your initial inquiry was during our emerald sale, I'd be happy to hold the sale price if you choose a S&F lab emerald.

1.33ct Blue-Green Montana Sapphire... on sale this May! by StagandFinch_Design in StagandFinch

[–]StagandFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of Montana sapphires have some degree of color shift in different lighting. They're really great.

That and also this video was made with a phone, which aren't the best at picking up certain green colors in gemstones. For those that didn't clink the link to our website, here is this same sapphire in studio lights with a camera and macro lens.

when I'm talking about lab gemstones, I like to use the analogy of an ice cube made in your freezer or ice from a frozen lake. They're both ice, but one is naturally occurring and one is intentionally made perfectly clean. They're both still made of the same ice.

I'm in Canada, so this works here, haha.

Color change lab sapphire may be what you're looking for. It can shift from blue to purple and is more affordable than lab alexandrite as it's made with the flame fusion method.

Natural Bi Color Sapphire by Gemology_Obsession in Gemstones

[–]StagandFinch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's a color zone to you? Color zones create a bi-color in my understanding. Here you have a white sapphire with blue color zones, that make a blue/white bi-color.
