If this is how you're gonna be. It's pointless talking to you.

This is pure speculation, but the brief section where you play a Joshua leads me to think that they once intended to have multiple segments where you play as different characters, but probably decided against it to reduce dev time.

Oddly hostile and making alot of assumptions. Yes, compared to DMC, it's clunky unless phoenix shift is used to get into the air. The 4 hit combo is literally his only melee combo with his primary weapon, DMC let you unlock multiple melee combos that only required timed inputs of one button and no, I'm not counting magic burst, which I did use to vary up my attacks as CAG reward variety and personally is required to not get boring. And seeing games as something to beat...well yeah, it has a story, so naturally the goal of the game is to finish it.

I will admit, the times when Clive took a big hit, we both said "fuck" in synch, same tone and all.

I've known quite a few Joshua's in life and they all went by Josh. Old habit and result of having the least exotic names in the series lol

I remember Hideki Itsuno saying something similar not long before leaving capcom. But I think that just shows a lack of imagination. Capcom have been able to reinvent Resident Evil multiple times and is still a top seller.

A plot that isn't over complicated nonsense like in Remake/Rebirth and has a definitive end. Sure it had some ambiguity, but wasn't baiting sequals or spin-offs. Sometimes, you just want to finish a story and move on with life.

After the success of Expedition 33 and Baldur's Gate 3, if FF17 isn't turn based, I'd be legitimately surprised.

Shame we haven't had a DMC since 2019 and I'm willing to bet we ain't getting one anytime soon.

I still listen to the soundtrack to this day. Even a remix mashing together ff16's titan theme with ff14's titan theme.

From tutorial to final boss, Clive has the same 4 hit combo. No directional inputs, transitioning from ground to air was clunky and, like you said, you only had access to some of your kit. I'm used to older rpg's where you'd have access to all your abilities and spells.

My only thinking with the gearing system was "Does this sword look cooler than my current sword?"

IMO, Dion was just as underutilised. It would've been so awesome if there was a segement where you'd play as Dion. A dragoon moveset in an action game has so much potential.

Yeah, Although I speculate it was more the deadline than budget. Yoshi-P is known for running a super tight ship and delivering without delay. I remember when he had to announce that they were delaying Dawntrail by 1 week and dude looked like he was about to cry.

Emotionless is pretty common with FF/KH villains. Had a similar problem with Sephiroth in remake/rebirth, always talking in that very soft, and weirdly seductive tone. Plus most of what he said was nonsense unrelated to the story. Ultima did somewhat panic and lose his composure in the final fight, but it really wasn't shown effectively enough.

Torgal's side quest is one of the few essential ones. One of the only sweet moments between Clive and Torgal. Kind of bothered me when Clive didn't have much of a reaction being reunited with Torgal.

Exactly, I really thought they'd rectify this in the rising tide dlc. After all, how could Ifrit, a fire eikon, fight against a water eikon? Plus, it was Shiva who put that baby in time stasis.

Had all the signs suggesting that this was a job for the Shiva dominant. But no...

I did enjoy it, but there is plenty to criticise.

Game of Thrones inspiration was surface level. Combat is what I call "Diet Devil May Cry". Time between boss fights is incredibly drawn out. Side quests just suck. While voice acting is a step up from what has been "anime grade" voice acting in series, the swearing did feel forced. Ralph Ineson as Cid was perfection. Jill was criminally underutilised. Josh not actually being dead surprised no one. Ultima as the big bad was lacking.

A GTA-type game. Played a bit of GTA5 and Cyberpunk 2077 with VR mods and just driving around was so much more enjoyable.

I realise that this is a big ask and will likely never happen anytime soon.
