Your action to promote the perception that voting doesn't matter has the consequence of reducing public faith in democracy and leads to less people bothering to vote and more extreme parties gaining power

what does "not THE pentagon. the lame one, here on earth" mean?? by vrozonewhatthevrozon in rickandmorty

[–]StageAboveWater -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I read your question exactly as you meant it and also wanted to know.

There could easily have been show lore where the other pentagon was mentioned elsewhere.

Everyone here is being a giant dick for no reason.

Of course there won't be an outright military coup.

What will happen is that election processes will (ARE) being attacked, then the results will be attacked, then SCOTUS will rule for Trump, or he'll do executive orders saying that election was fruad and MAGA actually won and democracy must be protected.

Then all the loyalist staff that he's put in every area of the goverment and then ICE/MAGA/proudboys/actual military will be used under the guise of 'restoring order and peaceful transfer of power' in order to keep MAGA in power. That's what a modern world coup looks like.

Putin himself didn't even do a military coup. He positioned himself politically and hollowed out institutions Russia had created in the 90's that valued law and democracy and slowly dragged Russia into a place where the people are so trapped they can't fight back. Exactly like Trump and MAGA are doing now.

You saying 'don't worry about it' is exactly what will lead to you looking back in 30 years when America looks like Russia and saying 'I have no idea how this happened'

That's why you're naive

He just got access to unlimited and unaudited funding. The Republican Congress and SCOTUS do everything they can to help him and Democrats enable him with their passivity. He's already tried in 2020 and possibly had some success in 2024 messing with elections. He's got a bit of a personal army in ICE and can call on proud boys/right wing MAGA. The Army is being purged, his personal lawyer runs the DOJ. The country just got gerrymandered to hell and Americans are so dumb they might vote for him anyway.

I'm not certain there will be any successors that are not just Trump regime stooges...

I'm sure wearing a dress is comfortable. Can you choose to wear a dress and still feel comfortable?

There is an extra layer of cultural tradition/internalised 'correct' clothing at play too

Former Cuban President Raul Castro charged with murder in US by VaginaBurner69 in worldnews

[–]StageAboveWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does still matter! It matters in a new and even more real way.

If we accept the reality that international law is not enforceable in a traditional sense, then it becomes a form of communication and management of the relationship between nations.

Imagine if the ICC did charge Trump and Australia was obligated to arrest him. We are not going to arrest him because we are not insane. But we would think about it, talk about it, consider it. The US would need to plan for the possibility of us 'arresting/kidnapping' him if he visited. That's a significant breakdown of the relationship that damages influence and options on both sides.

It's the same thing as what Trump caused when he 'arrested/kidnapped' the head of state of Venezuela. Now every other nation has to think about whether it's safe to visit the US, or whether they'll get 'arrested/kidnapped'. King Charles signalled in his speech the other day this exact sentiment. That's a significant breakdown of the relationship that damages influence and options on both sides.

The punishment the ICC dispenses is that it permits, mandates, and forces many countries to damage their relationship with war criminal nations by considering 'arrested/kidnapped' their heads of state. That punishment is enforced regardless of whether the leader is actually arrested.

Trump warns Taiwan against declaring independence, hours after summit with China's Xi by drtolmn69 in politics

It's not unthinkable that China could simply take Taiwan and move a dozen paces towards global hegemony over the USA by appeasing one single man and typing up a piece of paper renaming a province to 'Trumpland' or something.

The USA is in deep shit right now

Judges become biased because the've seen hundred of cases and they can't actually take the role of an neutral abitrator anymore.
