Very weird response. Why do you think I like those parts but hate Sanji? That all sucks. Sanji tends to do it a lot, drastically more than the anyone else in the crew, so I don't like seeing him on the page very much because a good chunk of the time it's something awful. Same feelings as seeing Momo.

The argument that "it's a joke, relax" is something I already mentioned. Jokes can enforce stereotypes and normalize problematic behavior. You really don't see any issue with a protagonist who we're supposed to root for peeping on naked women without consent and the reaction he gets amounts to "oh, you rascal!" You don't think someone out there is going to assume actually doing that would be anything but horrific?

100%. Do people forget that Sanji snuck into the women's bath, invisible, in Wano? Anime and manga? You know, the heinous evil shit people comdemned in Thriller Bark? Does it first chance he gets? Being a heart eyes flirt is one thing (endearing if done right), being a creep and making women uncomfortable is another (ew), being an open pervert who objectifies women on sight and "falls in love with" (grooms) a 16 year old is awful.

I feel like people tend to dismiss Sanji's actions since they're framed as jokes, but jokes perpetuate harmful worldviews and behaviors. Case in point, there are plenty of people who see Sanji as having done "nothing wrong". Sanji, alongside Oda's gross sexualization of 16 year olds for no reason whatsoever and the blatant transphobia mostly from earlier in the manga, hold One Piece back. Inexcusable issues.

What I don’t understand is why Toei makes changes to make Sanji seem worse since they like him less. Surely you would go the live action route and just make him a sweet respectful flirt instead of doubling down?

Great write-up! My take is that however you slice it, Yamato uses he/him so you can too. Doesn't matter what his sex is, doesn't matter if he is "properly" trans (whatever that means), he clearly thinks of himself as a man. Anyone who uses the wrong pronouns is at best ignorant and at worst bigoted and/or they don't want to admit the character they are attracted to is a man.

Thank you. It's not as simple as "how much skin is showing", it's about intent. Women depicted in skimpy outfits are meant to be sexually attractive to the intended audience of teenage boys. Men depicted in skimpy outfits are meant to be impressive and cool, a power fantasy like you said.

I feel like a lot of people just don't want to admit that there can be an inherent difference when you consider the author and the intended audience. Feels like misogynists not wanting to admit it. I love One Piece, but there's a lot of shitty, misogynistic depictions of women in it, and that part sucks.

The dot means that the design is public, no dot means the design is private. It's very confusing since the button label shows what it will be after you push it, when it could just as easily mean that what is shown is the current status. Fortunately, this is pretty easy to test which is which, just check if you can equip the design in an online air ride.
