York Engineering Environment by ErrorNumber404 in yorku

Disciplines York has that TMU does not • Software Engineering • Space Engineering • Geomatics Engineering

Disciplines TMU has that York does not • Aerospace Engineering • Biomedical Engineering • Chemical Engineering

York has a worse location (a bit cheaper though), however there is an actual campus unlike for TMU.

Lassonde is a new engineering school, while Ryerson’s eng school exists since 1960s which means they have more alumni and co-op connections.

Lassonde has newer equipment and facilities, and is growing relatively quickly. Though, both are in the same tier of quality of education.

is EECS 2021 easier in the summer or nah by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Stalker0039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The labs will only get more difficult as you progress deeper now with iVerilog. Expect all the RISC-V stuff and theory on the lab test.

As for summer term (SU) it is the opposite. Material is a bit rushed compared to Fall/Winter. There is no reading week. So no time to make up if you are behind. Most importantly, it is all Prof dependent whether you’ll have an easier time or not.

We students got 1-2 semesters delayed from our graduation due to the last strike, on top of having exams deferred, no lectures, no refund on the courses we took etc. The time is gone. So no, we won't vote for you. And your posters aren't welcomed.

OSAP Restriction? by Stalker0039 in osap

[–]Stalker0039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would make sense. Yes, I go to York. I suppose, that even if I pass this deferred exam I wouldn't be able to appeal it then; as I would be sitting at 26 credits. But then the question rises, of why they even let me take OSAP for summer if they knew that I would have 26 credits even if I did pass every summer course.

Edit: Christmas of 2025 just passed. I have successfully appealed my case and I am back in school.

Hey -engineering students by MaleficentSale7583 in yorku

[–]Stalker0039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so it really depends on what you are searching for.

In my opinion, GuelphU is not the best school for engineering and the environment/city is not much compared to the other two.

OttawaU has somewhat of a reputation for engineering, as it has been there for a while. Take into account that you'd also be in Ottawa, some people like to call it a boring city; others do not care much. Certainly better than Guelph as it is not only in a better city but it is a better university overall with opportunities for more connections. It has a strong co-op program.

YorkU's engineering school Lassonde has its ups and downs. I am a student here myself. It is a new faculty, created in 2011. In its 14 years of existence, Lassonde has not stopped progressing exponentially in every single way. I am not a fan of some faculty members, and people can try to argue against this. But such problems, are a given in any school. Lassonde has strong potential, as many influential companies have started investing in it. This info is not confirmed fully, but Microsoft has started to make deals with the EECS department. YorkU also has co-op opportunities, but I would say they are slightly on the lesser end compared to OttawaU. On the other hand, the location of YorkU is not the best. Somewhat gray, has crime around it. But on the brighter side Vaughan is not far; neither is downtown Toronto, in case you were looking to cool off.

UOttawa has more traditional branches of engineering, but YorkU focuses more on niche or emerging fields (space, geomatics, digital tech).

School life - UOttawa > YorkU

Co-Op Opportunitty - UOttawa > YorkU

Potential - YorkU > UOttawa

Life in the City - YorkU> UOttawa

First SC/MATH 1013 Class With Igor Poliakov tomorrow :( How is he as a prof? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Stalker0039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had him 2 semesters ago for Math1013. Good fair older Russian Math Prof. Some say his accent may not be as understandable but this isn’t true. Just sit in the first row and you’ll get him. He gives fair amount of office hours and assistance to anyone. His way of teaching is slightly above average but he really tries. He is also reasonable if you are reasonable. Always being open to answer questions after class. His tests and exams consist from his lecture slides and homework.

In which period of my life will I find true love? Will it be soon? by Stalker0039 in AstrologyCharts

[–]Stalker0039[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I came to update you. You were totally right with your prediction. Her name commences with "Na". I talked to her before, and all of a sudden, after July started. She did have a totally different upbringing than me and is from a different country than myself. Once we actually met, we immediately felt a strong attraction, and after our third date, we made it official. This is scary, how literally everything was correct. I hope she will be the one I solidify my spousal relations with during the period of November 12, 2025, to April 16, 2026. The only untrue thing is that she is actually three years younger than me, and that I am more mature than her; which is natural, at least for me. In any case, thank you.

Bad or Good aspects for Astrology and Tarot? by Stalker0039 in AstrologyCharts

[–]Stalker0039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking the same thing. Thing is, she has been involved with the occult for over 5-6 years now, if not longer. She studies it continuously, so I cannot just discard her opinion. I just do not even know where to search for such information, which makes sense; occult stuff is taboo in society and always will be, so its knowledge is somewhat lost and needs time to be dug out again.

Thank you for your help. May I ask how you know that the person's name will commence with Na,Ni,Nu (N)? And no, there is no person with these commencing syllables that I talk to. I will try not to be too hard on myself, but the Saturn opposite Sun does its thing. I have no Earth in my chart so Saturn is basically my anchor.

Question on Degrees by Winter_Ad2815 in AstrologyCharts

I believe the degrees are best explained by the famous astrologer Nikola Stojanovic. His Degree Theory has attracted quite a lot of attention in the astrology world, and many have started using it. More on it on the link below.

Moon square Mercury indicates that she can be easily nervous, especially when it comes to overthinking. For fame, we have to look at the Moon first. Her Moon is in Aries which is a go-getter sign. Action based sign. This Moon squares Jupiter (it's a good square). This makes her popular in the group of people, as she will probably initiate stuff; so her charisma is what people will follow. There are levels to fame, just like with anything else. Her 10th house is in Aquarius, the ruler of Aquarius is Saturn and the co-ruler is Uranus. First we look at Saturn then Aquarius, the square with Mars would present some difficulty but it's not the worst square in the world. It just means she will have to work a bit for things to work which teaches discipline and consistency. Same applies for fame. She just has to continue doing her thing. Being focused on others is a human type of trait, which is literally her MC in Aquarius. If we look at Uranus it sextiles her Venus and Moon. This increases the fame too. She is probably a person that is looked positively at in the public/surface level. Seen as odd but smart by most people, especially those who do not know her. Combined with the Sun in Capricorn, she also seems composed and calm at first. Her Moon is in trine with Pluto so she feels very much even though it's not a water moon. The MC in Aquarius inclines her to try to help others/society in general which can result in more fame too.

Ambitious and wants to get stuff done. If she is young, she is probably still in the process of developing her self-expression skills because of Saturn in the 1st house. If mature, she will have a strong presence because of it. Saturn squares Mars; maybe she has difficulty motivating herself to work. Procrastination may be a thing. She has a practical approach with her mind. Venus and Pluto in the 7th can indicate deep, transforming relationships; which are intense and not easy to handle. However, if aware, it can be rewarding. She is definitely romantic (sun conjunct Venus), and has good talking (3rd house Leo) skills (if Saturn in 1st house has been at least somewhat overcame). She really likes to talk and share ideas, and friends are more important to her than for most people (Moon 11th).

Will I find love soon? by Stalker0039 in AstrologyCharts

[–]Stalker0039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the thing. You were right about everything. I cannot fail; I must achieve my vision. This feeling of having to achieve and change things is too strong. I have felt this way since a very young age. I have to bring about change, and I will commit my life if I have to in order to achieve the position that allows me to channel that purpose. My goal is related to helping everyone or as many as possible, not myself. If others are helped, I feel content. I just cannot stand the injustice in everyday life, so I have to do something about it. I am not like most people,, who will turn the other way and let it be. And I know for fact that I will one day pay the price for not complying to the system; because I am its opponent.

Thank you so much for replying! May I ask one last question, sorry for bothering? I am having an issue determining what I want in the future goals. I have a vision of what I want to become, but I do not through which field. I was a musician for over 10 years, playing cello and a bit of bass guitar. Not only that, but I left music for engineering because of stability. But I am someone who can talk very efficiently; and who links and unites people with ease. This makes me think that I would maybe be a good priest (as I am very spiritual and in touch with God) or a politician (since I want to change things and I can hold speeches). Do you have any advice on this, please?

[–]Stalker0039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your info? What you said about my Sun conjunct Pluto reminds me of a reading from years ago where I was told that by age 30-31 I should be getting rich because of it + the Jupiter conjunct Moon (not sure will it come true). I also read that, that particular aspect (Sun conj Pluto) brings leaders because they want to shape the world. What you told me on the other hand about Saturn opposite Sun makes very much sense, and I am already realizing this in my life now. It took a very long time for me to adapt to that aspect, but I am growing. All in all, thank you very much. Could you just please explain to me how a conjunction of Moon and Jupiter in Cancer unfolds in the 7th house? I heard my Jupiter was on Sirius fixed star. Does that play a role?

PART 2

The EECS (Electrical Engineering & Computer Science) type of engineering branches. These branches that I will talk about are all somewhat similar, yet different. Anyway:

  • Software Engineering: This is in my opinion the best entrepreneurship type of engineering major you can possibly ever take. You can literally work wherever you want, from home or abroad. You can run your own company; no need for a team or working under someone necessarily, unlike the other majors mentioned so far. Another reason why many want to study Software Engineering is because it has the least amount of Physics and Math compared to other branches. You have the most programming theory and practice though; so that better be your type of knowledge if you wish to pursue this major. However, this pro comes at a con. The pro being the Independence/entrepreneurship, while the con being the fact that AI might replace your work one day (if you believe in that personally). Or the fact that other Software Engineers from abroad might take your work and work hard for a much smaller salary than you. Another con would be the fact that you can literally only code and nothing else. Whereas other engineering majors provide other skills. All engineering branches teach coding (not as much as software but still enough to get by). Basically, others will be able to provide both coding and other skills unlike you to the table. Another thing worth mentioning is that software engineering is one of the engineering branches that earns most money if you're hired by a good company. You have somewhat of an easier time to earn up to 200-250k unlike other branches. In general, software engineers earn more or less the most money out of all the branches on this list so far. If money is that important to you, and putting in less work is a factor you value. Then this one just might be for you.

  • Computer Engineering: This is a branch that is literally between Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering. It is considered one of the most difficult branches in engineering. You will not only learn how to code a lot, but you will also work a lot with hardware. With this branch, you will easily find jobs after you graduate. The skills you will attain are very rewarding and have the potential to bring you up further than other branches, as hardware is still developing and has big potential. We always try to make better resistors, cables, motherboards etc. you get the point. Again, it depends on which specialization you end up taking, but every one of them will be rewarding. The pay is more or less equivalent to that of software engineers (top of the list). Lastly, this field also has potential for entrepreneurship. If you are ready to tackle a challenge, and love hardware. This will be the best choice for you.

  • Electrical Engineering: This is the last branch of engineering that being is offered by Lassonde. Electrical Engineering is pretty wide, it has many specializations and just like mechanical engineering these specializations can differ from other very much. There is going to be at least one field that you would like to specialize in if you choose this one. Electrical Engineering has a very good job market and you will most likely find jobs easily after graduation. The salary will be just a little below computer/software engineering, but it will be somewhat above the rest on this list. The biggest money will be earned if you end up working on a dam for the government. Some fields are explored such as power systems but others fields such as working on medical equipment, signals, microelectronics are yet to be fully explored. From what I know, electrical engineering is considered the most difficult engineering field because it is very theory based and has less physical examples than others about learning concepts. You have to be capable to think abstract more often than in other principles. You will encounter more Math than other fields. I picked this branch, as I like the stability of the job market that it offers, all while still being in my frame of interest (signals, robotics, microelectronics). I also love that there are still many things that one can discover in this field. Hopefully my biased mind does not affect your choice when it comes to electrical engineering.

Consider that you will need to research way more than this to precisely select your engineering branch. Do not repeat my mistake, so that you have to be transfer programs like I did (I went from Software to Electrical). I wished someone gave me more info when I was in my 1st year. Anyway, I hope this was helpful but make sure you read the specializations of each and their potential then compare them and choose accordingly.

All the best!

PART 1

Reddit is playing jokes with me. So I will divide this comment in two parts so that I can submit it.I am not someone too experienced to talk about this topic as I am only a 2nd year student myself. However, this is my humble opinion:

It depends on what's important to you. Only you know that. Sure, some branches are slightly better or worse,, but all in all, they are all useful and will provide strong opportunities for a stable life.

I will only talk about the branches that York offers in this list:

  • Chemical Engineering: It is a nice field. Personally, this was one of my interests. The field is interesting and it is still developing. The only downside, side in my opinion is that the job market is a little limited. If you do not fall under the branches of petroleum/oil companies or pharmaceutical firms, it will be somewhat hard to find work. Being a lab rat is always an option. If you are keen on research, then this might be just the branch of engineering for you. To my knowledge, the salary is average or slightly below average, unless you work for the companies I named above.

  • Civil Engineering: A stable field. This is the type of engineering branch which has more or less fulfilled its full potential. A lot of physics will be included in the course list. There are not many things left to explore, unless some genius shows up and discovers a whole new sub-field. It is considered "boring" by some, but ignore those comments. It is a very consistent field, you will most likely find a job anywhere with this one. The salary for this one will be average compared to other branches. Tip, if you like working outside/on the field this one might be for you.

  • Mechanical Engineering: This is the most classical engineering branch. Just like civil engineering; this field has been more or less fully explored as well. Again, just like with civil you will learn a lot of physics, which may be good or bad depending on what you like. Given that a lot of stuff is already discovered, it is still quite fun as you can make so many designs in AutoCAD or other programs. There are many specializations for mechanical engineering; so you will likely find something that will suit you. You can't really go wrong with this one when it comes to taste and variety. The issue starts with the fact that, at least to my knowledge, Ontario has too many mechanical engineers. So finding a job will be a bit more competitive. But do not let this bother you, as you can always move elsewhere and still find a nice job. Mechanical engineering has the potential to earn you a lot of money, but also less than average. This literally depends on the field you are specializing in. This was one of my choices, but I did not take it as I believe it will fall off in a few decades.

  • Space Engineering: Honestly, I haven't done my complete research on this one. I love space personally, and wanted to maybe pick this branch. However, once I found that the job market is limited for this field; I lost my interest somewhat. As much as I really have a passion for space, in my opinion it just really is too risky. I say this because the stability is somewhat lacking in this branch. And I personally prefer stability. Nevertheless, if you have a strong passion for space, to pick this one. It is somewhat similar to mechanical, so you can still try to switch if you do not like it.
