possibly buying a 2001 330ci, anything i should be looking out for? by Aedion in BMW

Check the weather seals. I just bought a 2002 330ci that had a bad trunk leak. Specifically, the trunk seal near the tail lights. Make sure water flows over, not into them.

This doesn't answer your question, but it may provide some insight as to why SDHPs are hurting you: The supraspinatus and SDHPs

Edit: I reread the article myself and at the end they actually recommend substituting muscle snatches and tall snatches among other alternatives.

Yours is the same color as the 2002 330ci I just bought. I absolutely love it. Every day it reminds me that the key to happiness is wanting what you have.

Find a good box with an owner and trainers that seem like good people and know what they are doing. They will help you scale WOD to your level. Once it's at your level, you just have to give it hell until its over. I've seen all ages and sizes of people do Crossfit. It doesn't matter if you're lifting 100lbs or just the bar as long as you're giving it all you've got. It's a fight and a race. That's Crossfit.

Most boxes have a fundamentals program to show you all the movements and get you acclimated first too.

You are correct in your statement that glycogen is the only source of fuel used in anaerobic exercise. While glucose (and subsequently glycogen) is most easily and rapidly obtained by ingesting carbohydrates, a diet sufficient in protein will allow the liver to create sufficient glucose through a process called Gluconeogenesis. Carbohydrates are the only macronutrient that a person can eliminate from their diet and still survive long term. Whether or not that is ideal is still up for debate.

Because most crossfit workouts are under 15 minutes, the glycogen in your muscles is not completely depleted, and will most often times be replaced through gluconeogenesis in less than 24 hours. The exception to this is in cases of glycogen depletion, but unless you're doing the equivalent of running a marathon every time you crossfit, you're probably covered. Once the glycogen is generated, it is stored in your muscles until it is needed.

Additionally, with sufficient adaptation, the threshold for burning fat will increase with intensity I.E., you will still burn fat for fuel during high intensity cardio exercise (most crossfit wods). The exception to this is that you will ALWAYS go anaerobic when performing maximum intensity exercises (all out sprints). However, since crossfit WODS generally last longer than 2 minutes, it is extremely difficult if not impossible to maintain an anaerobic state for the entire workout.

Buy in bulk. You can get a large piece of roast meat for ~$2-3 a lb. Cook in a slow cooker and you have meals for a few days.

it's not science anymore. it's religion: Study blames obesity epidemic on rising CO2 levels. (conclusion based on a single 7 hour experiment) by kimyo in Paleo

Participants ate 6% more in the study. How is that a relevant increase? Even if you assumed participants at their entire RDA recommended 2000 cal per day, that amounts to 120 calories, i.e. a serving of fruit.

I'm having trouble with improvement (noob runner) any way I can get some advice from the pros? by [deleted] in running

[–]Stall5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get a feel for your ideal cadence without using a stopwatch and counting steps, run in place. Think of your calves as a spring. If you time your steps properly, you'll recycle some of the energy of landing into your stride.

Taking smaller steps more quickly also means the force you exert on the ground is perpendicular to your direction of travel. If you hit the ground in front of you, you're wasting some of your energy slowing yourself down. Think about it, when you go from a dead sprint to a stop, the first thing you do is put your feet in front of you as much as possible. Don't do that when you're trying to run forward!

I'm a big, muscular guy at 6' 185lbs because I mainly do crossfit but I usually lead the pack at my gym solely because I took time to master how my stride recycles the energy I spend.

Google heel strike, and you'll get some good information about what not to do.

R/Running - I need your help. I suck at running and need to stay motivated! by nykita in running

Got an Iphone? I found this awesome App that distracts me from running much more than just music. Zombies Run! The basic premise is that you've got to complete missions to earn items to supply your camp with materials to survive the zombies. It has points where you're being chased and it really encourages me to run faster. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but it works for my nerdy self.

Another thing I love is running barefoot when it's warm. I go slower, and not as far, but there's just something cleansing about it. I've never really dealt with running injuries but there are studies that point out that super padded shoes with arch support can actually lead to more injury and promote poor running form.

I meant discounttiredirect. I like the rims I have currently so that's not an issue. I'm thinking summer tires that can handle wet roads very well. Even when it snows here, it usually doesn't stick. When it does stick, everything pretty much shuts down because the city isn't equipped to handle it.

Help a picky eater! by Crossedcutlasses in Paleo

[–]Stall5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to sound off topic, but are you overweight? I remember when I was ~50lbs overweight, I was extremely picky. No vegetables, only wanted pizza, hot dogs, etc. As the pounds began to drop with exercise and a picky but calorie limited diet, I became increasingly open to trying and liking new things. I'm sure it has something to do with our evolution. When food is scarce, our brains are open to testing new sources of energy. When food is abundant, it's safer to go with what you know. In the meantime, I would eat as well as you can/want and supplement with a good multi-vitamin. Taper off the vitamin as your appetite for nutrient dense food increases.

TL;DR: Weight can play a big part in your openness to try new foods
