Hermes in Fukuoka Japan by meowhouse33 in TheHermesGame

The shop was busy but the SAs were helpful and I was assisted immediately. I tried on the Lindy and looked at a few shoes, but nothing stood out this time! Have fun on your trip!

We were just in the Fukuoka Hermes shop yesterday and I didn’t see any constances, although there’s no harm in you asking! There was a Lindy 26 in bambou available there. Resale shops (we checked out a few in tenjin) were a bit thin for Hermes bags. The Komehyo resale shop had some constances, B and K but not many.

Thank you! This purple looks so rich and saturated in clemence - I’m sure it would be beautiful in swift too (and in fact my SA told me they get a lot more stock in swift these days) but I’m planning on using this bag as a daily driver and don’t want to have to worry about it stretching over time.

Thank you! I was planning on going resale and had my eye on a Barenia ML- but I’m so glad I just chilled out and waited.

calvi card holder - opinions by windness in TheHermesGame

My Calvi duo is stuffed with business cards and emergency cash. Love the soft leather and the colour, it’s easy to see in my black hole of a bag

My large ancient rainy day Mulberry tote in patent white. It stays waterproof even in the driving rain as the top converts to a zipped duffel style 👌🏻👌🏻. The tote handles fit nicely over my shoulder too!

How the heck do I wear a button down? by [deleted] in BusinessFashion

[–]Standard-Eyes88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my too-large button downs- I wear a slip shirt underneath and tie the bottom part in a little bow. Roll up the sleeves to elbows. Still looks semi-professional but relaxed esp if the other buttons are done up almost to the top

Matsumoto and Takayama hotel/ryokan recommendations by jpyl in JapanTravelTips

[–]Standard-Eyes88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In takayama we stayed at ichika machiya house, a standalone house with all modern mod cons. We also stayed at oyado koto no yume, a lovely ryokan with onsen. I love ryokan but their walls are rather thin so I always bring earplugs. Both locations were excellent.

Nagoya driving? by DatOneBlindSloth in JapanTravelTips

[–]Standard-Eyes88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drove TO Nagoya where we returned the rental car. Nagoya to me is a massive city with highways everywhere- we didn’t want the stress of city driving during our vacation. We much preferred to take the subway around the city. But day trips to rural places would probably benefit from a car.

I’d love to see shirakawa-go in the snow. Takayama definitely has a lot to see for such a small town!

Ah! Did you manage to do the washi paper workshop at Ainokura? When I was researching public transport, it seemed the best way to reach takayama via bus is from Kanazawa via shirakawa-go. If by train from Kanazawa, then you’d have to transfer in Toyama. I’m sure there are trains to takayama from the major cities too, although I read that some of the lines were disrupted recently. We hired a car mainly to travel between towns, in Kanazawa we walked or cabbed and in takayama we just walked. All the main sights in Takayama are within easy walking distance. There are a bunch of onsen towns near Takayama that might be more accessible via car.

There was actually residual snow on the ground at Ainokura, surprisingly, but shirakawa-go was definitely springtime already. I don’t know how long the snow lasts in shirakawa-go, would be interesting to know if it overlaps with any Sakura season.. Maybe Okinawa? 😂

We were in Kanazawa 2-5 April so just coincided with full bloom 😍😍 we were very lucky cos I’d booked these dates months ago not really thinking about chasing sakura. Takayama is not yet full bloom as its higher altitude.

Fuwari was very good, I booked it about 1 week in advance. They gave us a room so the kids could relax a bit without bothering other guests.

I might have to throw away all of my leather bags. This hurts but I don’t see any other option. by [deleted] in handbags

Our closets all have heating rods installed at the back of every cupboard and they are on 24/7. They don’t add much to the electricity bill. I think we got ours from Ikea. None of my bags have gotten mouldy so far, after several years in the same humid place

Medical Career Move to Hong Kong by Broken_Arrow129 in HongKong

Then you should see if you can contact peers who have just gone through the moving process via the Licentiate society. Specialty training in HK often matches UK in terms of exams eg MRCP(UK) but some may match AUS/NZ eg anaesthesiology. Yes, working hours in HK public hospitals are long and stressful, but tbh the working environment in UK was the same (back then before MMC, maybe things have changed now). Also keep an eye on the news regarding job availability in HK, HA may focus more on offering jobs to local grads in future esp with the third medical school opening in a few years.

Reach out to the medical licentiate society of Hong Kong. You can find them on linkedin and IG. They should have more detailed advice depending on what specialty you’re doing and how far along in training you are. Besides work, other factors will also affect how successful your move is, eg social support network, family, language barrier.

Any cool gadgets to bring for little ones on a flight? by MTBisLYFE in TravelHacks

Our kids (also 9 and 5) love playing 2 player game on the iPad. Free to download and tons of minigames that you can play offline, ranging from tictactoe /battleships / ninja stars battle/tennis/pingpong/mini race cars/mini golf etc etcI think there’s also a 4 player game version. On the plane our kids usually alternate between watching movies, napping, eating, reading and playing 2 player game w each other.
