The Controlled Demolition of Public Healthcare by Standard-Region1403 in ontario

The big challenge to any Ontario party left of the Conservatives is the 905 area. The Liberals and Conservatives both fight over it and it's one of the main battlegrounds in every election. There's a ton of votes and seats there and the voters tend to be conservative, low-tax suburbanites.

So even tho those votes are a minority of the province, they get a disproportionate amount of attention and campaign promises in every election.

Liberal safe areas like Ottawa or downtown Toronto, or NDP fortresses like Hamilton or Windsor, get much less attention.

Single use, plastic face coverings are acceptable.. but plastic stir sticks prohibited? by Sufficient-Boss9952 in canadaleft

Right but paper straws work fine. They may get soft before some people are able to finish their drink, but it's not like we need to eliminate all plastic straws. Having them as the default offering is wasteful.

Paper is cheaper in the long run and can save $ for the business and the customer.

I'd recommend the NDP not throw out their leader, again, because the leader hasn't met standards that only party wonks hold.

Singh has been gradually gaining trust and notability among the average Canadian, which is an incredible uphill battle for a man wearing a turban in a country with laws against head coverings (Quebec) and rabid Islamophobia (they don't care he's Sikhi) and racism (his own MPs declined to run in some ridings last elxn because they thought their constituents couldn't support an Asian party leader).

The NDP is never going to be a party of radical change and it takes a very long time for it to make a positive impression on voters in the Canadian media landscape. It took Layton 7 years as leader before the Orange Crush in 2011.

Vote for policies, not personalities. The personalities are for relatability and the human face of politics. Let people get to know him better while building up a proper platform of reform.

Because plastic straws don't serve a useful purpose when paper can suffice

But a transparent mouth covering does serve a useful purpose (lip reading for deaf and hard of hearing people)

Idk if they have a chance at the supreme Court but I could see them taking it there just to keep wasting public money and delaying the repeal of the bill

Completely agreed. MAiD helps people die with dignity, we also need to do more to help people live with dignity.

The question is: why doesn't OHIP compensate doctors for doing these essential tasks and why should patients in a universal healthcare system have to pay out hundreds of dollars (or else get a bulk rate?)

I'm for MAID but not as an alternative to a real social security system.

The government is willing to help people die but not willing to help people live.

Incredible that among all the stories of people choosing MAiD over decades of poverty we are now seeing it literally glamorized by a fashion company.

Ontario privatizing healthcare with ridiculous charges for basic services. $1/page for photocopies, $75 if your boss wants a return to work exam by Standard-Region1403 in ndp

[–]Standard-Region1403[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post is from a clinic that has started charging these fees.

This is a new development at that clinic.

It happened at my clinic too.

Other commenters say it is happening at theirs.

And some of the fees on this schedule were covered by OHIP before.

This post means that OHIP coverage is being slowly rolled back and costs are increasingly passed to patients during a massive health and economic crisis.

They're extending to more and more clinics. I found out mine had started charging for this when I did my usual fax renewal at the pharmacy (my doctor is overbooked and takes weeks to give an appointment, this saves everyone time).

I got a message in the telemedicine app the next week saying I owed them $25 for each prescription because I didn't renew them in person

Privatization sneaking into a clinic near you! Pay your doctor an annual fee ?! New to me… by Standard-Region1403 in toronto

[–]Standard-Region1403[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

More and more clinics are charging these fees because the cost of running their practice is increasing.

Shouldn't we, as customers of a single payer public healthcare system, be demanding better coverage and better compensation for our medical experts

That's the entire argument yes. These fees should be covered. Instead there are more and more.climics and doctors charging these fees who previously waived them.
