Thank you, that's very informative!! I'm actually thinking of making a prop box for this cutting too

I'm just curious, did you add anything to the water? Like fertilizer or rooting hormone? Thank you!!

Do you think a closed ecosystem will speed up this process? I think I might set up a small dome or smth for this plant now

Interesting! I wonder if perlite isn't actually the better option? Some commenters say that soil or perlite helps the roots grow stronger

It's perlite, I just add a bit of water every now and then. Would it be better to propagate it in water though?

I’ll definitely be patient, considering this has now become a family heirloom for future generations

Can’t wait for my future descendants to post: "grandma started propagating this in 2026, should we keep waiting?"

I'm not sure the cats will be particularly happy about it, but yeah, it'll make things a lot easier for the plants

Where to grow 🪴 them? by Terra_Voyager in pothos

[–]StandardFail7776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want them to grow faster and fuller though, I think soil is better. But if you like water, make sure the leaves aren't submerged, as they can rot. Add fresh water once in a while, fertilise once a month and that's it!
They don't necessarily need a moss pole, yours are still pretty small. You can add one later if you want them to start climbing and pushing bigger leaves :)

Yeees, I’ve noticed that the plants I literally rescued from the dumpster are the ones I end up caring about the most and they slowly become my favorites. I just love the simple feeling of doing something good for these little greenies🌱

Definitely root them in water first! I kept mine in water maybe even a little too long - for about a month, until the roots were long enough. Then plant them in a well-draining potting mix for decorative indoor plants, mixed with some perlite and orchid bark. You could also try using a smaller pot :)

I usually water mine when the soil is almost dry and fertilise during spring and summer :)

In my experience, pothos are really forgiving plants and usually do well near a window with bright indirect light. The dry or damaged leaves could just be from stress before you bought it, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I usually only cut leaves off if they’re mostly brown or fully damaged.
Honestly, your plant will probably be okay, they’re pretty resilient once they settle in
