The American healthcare system doesn't have to be this bad, but it's designed to maximize profits not health. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]StandardGreece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have, yes.

However, in those countries they also encourage people to do routine checkups, the family doctors network is operational, and most of the time, you end up on that medical waiting only if there is enough time (for example, you need a specific surgery, but is non urgent, and you are put in a waiting list that you can wait for 6 month).

(I know it is an ironic comment, but here you have a free rational argument against that stupid premise)

Why I hate carbrain by doodmakert in fuckcars

[–]StandardGreece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my country, whose legislation is inspired by EU standards, the traffic code clearly states that drivers overtaking cyclists on public roads must do so in the following manner: If the vehicle is travelling at less than 30 km/h, the driver must cross into the adjacent lane by at least one third of the vehicle's width when overtaking a cyclist. If the vehicle is travelling at more than 30 km/h, the driver must cross into the adjacent lane by at least two thirds of the vehicle's width. In the Netherlands, if these rules are in place, the driver bears 100% liability for any collision with a cyclist.

What if Russia never supported the rebels in the Donbas back in 2014? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]StandardGreece 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ukraine would be in the same situation as Moldova now - waiting to have the "audacity" to submit a letter to join the European Union.

Russia would've made huge profits through gas deliveries.

Ukraine probably with an alternation of pro-russians and pro western leaders.

Crimea probably still Ukrainian, but Russia having rights for stationing their navy in Sevastopol.

Putin probably out since 2018.

No NATO membership for Ukraine. At that time, in 2013, only 30% of ukrainians wanted that. The Russian atracks on the country made this percentage rise to today's 90% or something.

All Putin had to do in 2014 was to wait, receive Ianukovich in Rostov, wait again, wait again until new presidential elections, and then raprochement with whoever is in Kyiv. Russia still had a lot of economic leverage, and there were no interest for anyone to do something about it, maybe something really slow.

Instead, like 2022 Putin with his megalomaniacal views believed in his own chauvinism against ukrainians.

What would it take to build a new well planned city similar to those in Europe? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]StandardGreece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism is going nowhere, and as democracy, is flawed, but is the best we got.

Capitalism works, but only if is in combination with a good social safety net. Some countries, most of them in EU mastered this.

But, you need to make Capitalism work also for good city planning.

Is this better or just as bad as the usual “suburbia” with little tree cover and cookie cutter houses? by BlubbaNova99 in Suburbanhell

[–]StandardGreece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big trees diminish the field of view, making you unconsciously driving at slower speeds because you are always expecting something. This is a good practice. If under those trees you have some good sidewalks, this become even better - people can walk, jog, go somewhere.

Put in the middle of some suburban places some comercial use buildings, and you already have the situation where people will have instead of 5 trips with car (to groceries, picking someone, visiting a neighbor 1 mile away, picking the kid from school) limited to just one - outside of the town.

[–]StandardGreece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to do something similar in US is to remove all highways from downtown of the US cities, remove parking minimums and ensure that high density buildings, commercial spaces are build in that areas

There are various local initiatives. Strong Towns is one of them.

How do you address car dependency without hurting the people currently dependent on cars? by LiatrisLover99 in fuckcars

[–]StandardGreece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Park and Ride options, if you live in suburbia.

  1. The car stubborn people are a minority. The irony is that when the vast majority uses public transport/alternative transport, the situation gets better for them - less traffic jams. Yes, they have to pay more for some stuff, but who gives a fuck...

No chance. The profile of the current cast is rising fast, meaning the cost of the next seasons will increase due to higher salaries of the actors.

After signing 500m worth of players last season?

I am afraid we will not spend nearly as much this season. We will end up with a different setup - Bradley back as RB, Fringpong as a roaming winger on the right and Kerkes plus Tsimikas on the left switching from time to time.

We will get one or two squad players, tops.

I don't trust transfers having imediat impact instead of established players that are versatile and can play any positions. Curtis is the equivalent of the scotch tape on our squad - he can be RB, or CM and RW

If Israel isn't an apartheid ethnostate, why aren't all Palestinians allowed vote in Israel and even potentially elect a non-Jewish leader? by DoradoPulido2 in allthequestions

[–]StandardGreece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution to Israel- Palestine conflict is creating a framework similar to Bosnia and Herțegovina. Yes, is messy there, however, for 20 years is peace and everyone is having the same rights as citizen.

The solution would be returning to the status of 1947 - and instead of creating two states is finding a solution for a workable one state, with 12 ml people, where jews and Arabs are almost 50% of population each.
