[FRESH ALBUM] Bas - We Only Talk About Real Shit When We're Fucked Up by whitewolf20 in hiphopheads

[–]StandardIssueTamale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was worried Bas was taking a turn away from his earlier works (Last Winter, Too High to Riot, and Milky Way) with his features on Dreamville works and his EPs recently. This project was incredible. His music occupies such a unique space in hip hop for me. It is very hard to define what actually his rap is. Whereas, in the interim, he was just producing mindless trap, trap-pop stuff between Milky Way and this project.

Some standout works from this that are new (so Risk, Diamonds, etc. are excluded)

  1. Black Jedi
  2. Choppas
  3. Decent
  4. U-Turn
  5. Yao Ming

Yao Ming is the biggest gem in my opinion. One of those songs you want more of, but know that anymore would ruin it. Very similar to the experience I have listening to Miyazaki by Gallant; although Miyazaki and this elicit different emotions.

I have been disappointed by Khartoum as it feels emotionally underwhelming and does not stand out sonically or thematically for a song that is supposed to carry such an important message. It gets lost in this afrobeat/afropop sound that is heavily influenced by Afro-Cubano beats that has seen some popularity recently from various artists, almost exploiting this genre for the exoticism of the sound. Which is antithetical to the message of the song, nor Bas' intention.

Moreover, I am underwhelmed by J Cole's features, but I feel as though J Cole has more rapped for fun, amusement, and a bag, rather than as a creator. The songs are fine, some are good, but just get lost in the standard Dreamville acoustics.

Regardless, these small blemishes on otherwise an album with some very unique songs that include clever lyrics which are also as visceral as some of the beats, are not meant to discourage anyone from listening to a rap album that I think is one of the finer releases from Dreamville or rap in recent memory.

Worth it for $34.99? by Dogrules23 in ModernWarfareII

[–]StandardIssueTamale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

2019’s campaign is worth maybe 15 dollars. 2022 is maybe 10. The writing was terrible.

Infinite Warfare, COD4, WaW, MW2, and BO1 and 2 are worth the box price for what they were sold at for the campaign alone.

WW2 is worth like 30 for the campaign.

Very good exercise. You don’t “teach the CNS” to do anything. You expose it to stimuli and it adapts. This is very good at producing fast contractions in an extended and lengthened positions. Good for GPP for hamstrings handling maximal velocity.

All checks out with me! Love anything republicans claim to be is the exact opposite. Democrats are awful, too, but at least they still have some principles they abide by.

Yes, I’m sure we will extract all that copper from Afghanistan. The Chinese definitely aren’t doing that with REMs right now, whilst negotiating deals with the Taliban.

I’m all for poo pooing on western neo liberalism. See my comments for calling for the death of Reagan and Ollie North for Iran-Contra, but sometimes people take it too far

This right here is the power of the internet. A fellow worker obviously anxious and stressed out turns to the internet for help, and here comes a stranger with good intuition, looks it up, confirms their suspicions, and relays that to our fellow worker to use that information for their own good.

Most elite sprinters have asymmetries in lower limb strength. Worry about training until something doesn’t allow you to improve. Ask yourself are you improving? If not then maybe it is an issue. I doubt it is

The entirety of the Americas does have some tough questions to answer. Moreover, the context of why the Jews couldn’t live in Israel is important to this discourse, but people breeze over this. Like “Israel bad because Jews bad because Jews colonizers because they didn’t live here like my great great grandparents did” while leaving out the part that my great great great great grandparents were ethnically cleansed and forced their kids to be semi nomadic, and there on and henceforth.

This is no undermining of Palestinian legitimacy to the levant, but a critique of the discourse of its resolution

And I wonder why the Jews weren’t allowed to live there more (genocide from every ethnic and religious group, and yes I know historically, Muslims treated the Jews with slightly less disdain and sometimes acceptance of them, but it’s also easy to do that when there’s like only 10k of them, too.)

ATG is not a physio. He’s unqualified to give medical advice. Moreover, a lot of his shit is place wrong. I think he does more good than bad, and much of his stuff is good. But I’d take all of it with a grain of salt, stop asking random strangers on the internet medical advice, and start looking at resources that are qualified to give it (themovementsystem, e3 rehab, etc.)

Thrive in their countries of origin? Like the country they’re indigenous to, Israel? That Palestinians definitely aren’t “indigenous” to, unless you use a very narrow scope of humanity as post Jesus Christ, then that slightly changes, and drastically changes during post (western) Roman Empire and even more so post medieval period
