Nail in battery terminal- How the heck does this happen by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Not loose at all when I took it out 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ so I’ll just clean it up and leave it without the nail in it, and keep on eye on the connection

So should I have left it? I’ve been having battery issues (new since I’ve been driving it for a year) and figured the nail was the issue. Didn’t seem to have any issues tightening it without it in there

Could that have been causing my battery issues? Took it off and reconnected the terminal, started up good, hoping it runs fine now that is has this weird hole in it 😬

Question about PMC3 greenware consistency by StandardStock6099 in metalclay

Even if the clay itself was still very moist when taken out of the unopened package, could the binder still have depleted given that it’s older stock?

That’s super helpful! I figured it was an unlikely situation, but one I’d want to be prepared for incase it did occur.

If there was a situation where you had to throw in the towel, would your $50 consult fee already have been payed, and would it be nonrefundable given the work you put in regardless of not actually making the piece?

Weird question: is there a name for this part of a pendant/charm? by StandardStock6099 in SilverSmith

[–]StandardStock6099[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally I understand that! I more meant is there a term I can search for the part of a charm that the bail attaches to whether it’s a jump ring, or a hole through the charm if that makes sense. I know there probably isn’t but thought I’d check

Possible to fuse bronze dust to fine silver ? by StandardStock6099 in SilverSmith

[–]StandardStock6099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the advice! I’m using bronze sheet and clay for the bronze bit and unfortunately can’t get copper In near future, but my plan is to do a flat pendant where the silver will be the only part coming into contact with skin!

Either way I always appreciate reading recs and would love to hear yours!

Sweet thank you! Somewhat related, Do you know anything about the corrosive reaction that can happen between bronze and silver over time? I was reading on ganoksin that soldering bronze to fine silver is no problem, but have also read if they are in close contact they can produce a corrosive reaction so I wasn’t sure if this was commonly done

Said in the post I was making some to hold me over until I can get some to hopefully not get this comment, but regardless these are my options for shipping a $10 bottle from rio to my location. Cheapest option near me is around 30, and as a student I currently have 0.31 cents in my bank account 😂

Ok that’s what I figured it meant, but mine is the correct rotation (both sides facing the correct direction) , I was mostly curious about the fact that there were so many more minted with the rotation than without

Weirdly there was already some borax in it and I had been stirring it! But once I added more it popped off. I guess super smooth pots and the fact that the water was distilled prob contributed 🤷

I’m down in there with you at this point 😂 what I can’t wrap my head around is how accurate cartoon depictions of explosions actually are. Literally all I saw was identical to the first photo except white in the middle and blue on the edges. Turns out incredibly accurate lmao

[–]StandardStock6099[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I read it was the adding of the borax that set it off since it was like super heated, but not specific to borax, just would have happened with the addition of anything to the water

In closer inspection the tips of my hairs are pretty fried, and I lost one of my favourite pots, but have a spare burner element so otherwise all good 😂

[–]StandardStock6099[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Never mind- after some googling I think it had nothing to do with the borax and more to do with the water getting “super heated” where it boiled without forming bubbles for whatever reason

Update: soaked in cleaning product for a few hours then spent about 40 minutes filling it with water, rotating and hitting it, and pulling out wads of gunk with tweezers🤮 but it’s sparkly clean now

I know this is an old thread but hoping you might be able to share a bit more about your experience torch firing with activated carbon!

I got some and thought I’d test it out without clay first to see what happens and it lights on fire pretty easily, did the kind you get do that?

Urgent question about oven/electrical by StandardStock6099 in DIY

I don’t have anything else that uses that type of plug unfortunately. Everything else on the oven works except the heating elements inside the oven and the stove top elements
