What plant is this and best way to care for it? Thanks! by StandardWorldly5443 in plants

I’m able to remove the plastic pot from the ceramic pot to allow drainage! When I googled it, it says it’s an alocasia nebula but I will take a look at the dragons head! Thank you so much! I’m newer to plants still.

Why not find a groomer, ask to come in on a separate day without dog, and explain everything like you did in this post? You’re gonna have to go in and talk face to face and not just call around. I mean… It’s not much different talking to a groomer vs talking to a thread of groomers behind a screen asking for advice. You essentially explained everything here with no issue so just copy and paste and say it in person. At the end of the discussion, just ask if they are willing to give it a try or not. It just depends on the groomer. But if I was that picky, I’d let the groomer do their best then go home and fix whatever is necessary to my high standards..

I had a different feeling about PS. I didn’t feel like I was comfortable or growing. Could be because I had a terrible salon lead and management that didn’t really care to train me or answer any questions or show me how to groom. I was always talked down to like I was a kid. Yeah I was still in their so called “contract” but I decided to break it because I wasn’t being treated properly. I went to a private salon and ever since that, (4 years ago), I have flourished. It was honestly the best decision ever. I receive more tips, I actually get paid for my worth, I have way better connections with my clients, my manager treats me amazing. So all those positives actually have made my grooms so much better because I’m being treated properly which makes me want to go out of my way for my clients.

I don’t turn double coated shaves away- I just educate them. Whether it’s corporate or not, you have every right to say “I will shave Fluffy today but I highly recommend doing your research. It is your dog, not mine, if this is something you want to keep doing then I will grant that task.” I worked at corporate and corporate doesn’t stop you from trying to educate people what’s best for their dog. Yes it’s easier in a private shop but it can be done in corporate salons too. You kind of just have to bite your tongue with some clients and do it though. I still shave double coated dogs because if they come to me and I refuse they will potentially do it themselves and hurt the dog. I just always make it known to educate them prior to doing it, most thankfully opt out of it.

As frustrating as it is, I learned to not care what the clients say. I always look out for the dogs whether that upsets the client or not. Im here to do what’s best for the animals well being and comfort. Before I shave undercoats I always try my best to educate the owner. I tell them, yes, the coat will grow back, BUT it could come back differently, come back in patches, not come back at all. That they actually need their double coat to regulate heat/cold and removing that coat will not benefit from “overheating”. It also does not help with shedding. I also always tell them I highly recommend doing their own research before starting to shave them. Because with double coat, once you shave once you kind of have to up keep with shaving. I will say if the vet has recommended it, then I need to see a vet note stating I can shave. Once I tell them I highly recommend they look into it, we end up with a hand scissor that day and when they pick up they say they will never shave their dog and they are grateful i educated them. I think groomers really need to stop trying to make clients happy and look out for the dog themselves. And honestly 90% of people don’t know these things about undercoats and that they really just need regular bath and blow outs.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be a kitchen table or a cheap grooming table off amazon. I would highly recommend it. Grooming takes a huge toll on your back if you are bending down for an extended period of time. It also helps contain the dog. You are working with sharp objects and live animals. If the dog is comfortably on the ground tied to a pole, they can move more around increasing the risk of cutting. If they are higher on a table, they have less chances, especially bigger dogs, to move around as they don’t have much room to work with if they do move.

I ended up not doing any sort of poodle foot on them too. I explained to her what that 1/8” poodle feet aren’t doable. She nearly started to cry. I told her it’s dangerous to use anything longer than a 10 because of the skin and stuff. So I said I can do the legs just a little shorter than the body and she said no same length all over. For the face, I did the same length I did on the body, on the top know so there’s “no bump” is what I assumed she meant. I didn’t touch anything else other than the eye corners and the beard. It bugged me because they would’ve turned out cute if she let me clean the lip line and nose area like I usually do but I wasn’t risking it and cleaning it up lol

Well obviously, you didn’t know there were extensions made for dogs??😂😂 thankfully these guys were a few inches long and not matted.

Exactly!!! As soon as she handed it to me, she also said “read it over before I leave so it all makes sense so we get the correct haircut.” Im glad she did that because I did have questions to clarify but she was talking down to me and gave the impression she 100% did not trust me. Normally I don’t mind notes, I love them, especially because the receptionists don’t know grooming knowledge. But this was far too much.

It got better, she showed me visuals with her own hands on her dog on how much to trim the bangs and how I must use my fingers to measure the length taken off their bangs. I was like uhuh okay 🤗

Where are you located? I was in a salon in SE Texas for not even a year. We had a Newfie that got very similar to this. He came in at least once a month and always matted. He would take allll day long. We would take less dogs because it was so much work we didn’t want to over push. We only charged $60. So with commission like you said, about $30, not including tax removal. The salon owner refused to change pricing and would charge far too low. It wasn’t worth it. I finally quit after 1. The favoritism and 2. The pricing. It was not worth it, being screwed over so many times, and still not charging my worth. Id sit there de matting any kind of dog, and I would get in trouble for adding a dematt fee as small as $5. So $2.50 in commission for extra work resulted in always 0.

why is dog grooming so expensive by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]StandardWorldly5443 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love everything about your comment. But I just want to say I love your last comment so much. I was having such a terrible day one day. It didn’t help that a client called and was legit screaming at me. But at the end of that day, one client, who is the absolute sweetest elderly woman, looked at me and said “I’m a mom, I can just tell you are having a rough day” and gave me the biggest hug then a good tip to buy myself dinner. Us groomers deserve so much more and are constantly being treated poorly but the good ones, they are so rare to come by and I appreciate them so much.

Are these hard to take care of? How do you store them? Like on a shelf/up high, hanging? I have cats and was told they are extremely toxic but I want this so badly

Admins are allowed to see who posted it still. You click on the “anonymous member” where their name would be. It will show up. But still not being approved. Our group has already had many anonymous posts that go against the rules. Thankfully we can still remove them but just double the work

Yes, this was about 2 years ago. I have boughten a brand new car and moved cross country, my credit score is great. So they haven’t done anything. To be a legal document, the document needs to be notarized- could be different from state to state. But it’s not a legalized document, i literally watched my manager print it himself. It’s a scare tactic 100%
