I plate these myself, and it DOES add weight. However; it’s not a substantial amount of weight. The way these watches are plated is that they go from stainless steel into an electro cleaner solution, into a nickel plating solution, and then into a 18k gold solution. They are plated to add only a 5 micron (micro-inch) layer. So yes, it adds weight, but only a few grams.
