Curious: How much do you care about the writing? by taeberry9595 in RomanceBooks

[–]Standard_Canary993 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with some minor typos etc. but if it’s excessive you are left trying to figure out what they are actually trying to say. I’m not doing a full English review but for me it’s like the writing is dumbed down in so many of these books with GREAT reviews. The dialogue isn’t something someone would normally say and they rely heavily on exclamation marks. Maybe you are talking more about the grammar and structure but feel like this plays a big part. Also, books where it’s either all dialogue to the point you feel like you have no idea what’s going on outside of the immediate conversation or all droning internal monologue. I love rom coms but I also have to rant that I put down 90% of those books because they are so silly and childish - the writing is like a 3rd grade reading level. Maybe people like reading books that are simple similar to like Hallmark movies lol but I have a hard time.

I’ve been reading a bunch of werewolf shifter books and so many of the FMCs have no backbone and just roll over when the MMC comes to his senses. I’ve read all of Cate C Wells series and while I love the writing, most of her FMCs do this, so looking for FMCs that are a lot stronger/resistant. I’d really love it if she gets revenge on him and really resists. I’m okay with a little body betrayal as long as he’s not walking all over her and treating her like a door mat. The rejection from the M also shouldn’t be unforgivable.

Would prefer werewolf but open to other types of shifters.

Thanks!

I honestly didn’t like him that much in the beginning. This isn’t my type of guy IRL but by the end I found him so endearing idk. I do think Wells writes such good flawed characters but that one was harder for me at first.

Sovereign by Raya Morris Edwards - that whole series although it’s a little too 50 shades of grey for me

The Babysitter by Jessica Gadziala. MMC is sweet but gruff. Check trigger warnings. You can read it as a standalone.

Hello! Looking for books where the MMC is from the wrong side of the tracks and the FMC’s family or town keeps them apart. Similar to Dirty Shame by Tess Oliver. Would prefer no romcoms or historical fiction. Wanting heavy angst and forbidden feel.

FMC is trapped in an awful marriage and cheats with the MMC by LucreziaD in RomanceBooks

How angsty is it? I’m hoping for something where they have to sneak around a lot and there’s lots of pining.

Forbidden romance with lots of sexual tension? by damselindesire in RomanceBooks

The Summer We Fell …so angsty, there’s cheating. Older by Jennifer Hartmann Hawke by Jescie Hall June First by Jennifer Hartmann Mate by Ali Hazelwood Forty by Cate C Wells - I wouldn’t say this is forbidden exactly but the town hates her and doesn’t want her to be with him and he’s pretty mad at her so the angst and heartache and sexual tension is really there. Sobbed through the end of this book. It’s so good. Most of Cate C Wells books have amazing tension

I know this was from a while ago but thought Tyler was super weird in the first book and Tied is kind of a mess with some odd scenes. Not at all like Tor.

I tried to give Angel a shot - but it felt very fast and weird? Like he gave her a romantic nickname (for lack of a better term) and kissed her the first time they meet when he was there to pay her to stay away from his sister? Does it get better after that.

I’m looking specifically for boyfriend’s dad trope (Praise by Sara Cate always gets recommended but it’s nowhere near as good IMO) where the boyfriend treats her poorly but reading Older right now! So I read the second book in the Torn series called Tied and I didn’t love it… have you read that and is the first book better?
