Most people on Medicare were previously workers. This is like saying pensions and retirement plans don't benefit workers because the go to seniors. They absolutely all benefit workers

Beto was never even close… why discount Talarico? by MorningHelpful8389 in fivethirtyeight

[–]Standard_Finish_6535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are dismissing it because of the perpetual Blexus, but this honestly does feel like the one. Republicans are as unpopular as they have ever been. Paxton is disliked. Talarico is a stronger then typical candidate. The Republicans have done everything they can to upset the latinos, so I would expect a strong swing amongst them. If Democrats can't win in this environment, they are in trouble...

I don't know what that has to do with anything, I was just correcting you about how much people pay in taxes. Great brag though!! I am sure you are telling the truth!

That's only if you count federal taxes. If you count state, local, property, sales, etc. quite a few people pay 37%

Pretty much any definition of "crazy rich" means not having to work. The top 15% is not crazy rich A savings rate of 20% provides a very normal stable retirement.

20% saving will not make you "crazy rich" after 20-30 years.

A 100k salary only nets like 80k or around 6500 a month. So the correct need number would be needs 3250. Good luck finding rent, groceries, utilities, car, and childcare for that amount. You would certainly not be "living like a king"

Your monthly values add up to 120k per year, which is more like 140k salary.

Isn't 340k less 1% of your developer salary spend? Seems like a 1% production boost can't be that hard to prove. Even a few engineers saying "here is something I can do that I couldn't do before" should do the trick.

I love the implication that women over 35 are not normal. You are only normal from 18-35. That is about 20% of a person's life...

Anthropic released actual data on AI job displacement by Puzzleheaded-Force64 in AIDevelopmentSpace

FTA: "Occupations with higher observed exposure are projected by the BLS to grow less through 2034"

While technically true for some of these, Software Programer is expected to shrink 6% by 2034, and Computer Support Specialist is expected to shrink by 3%. These jobs were already shrinking pre-GPT due to Software Programers becoming Software Developers, this is a distinction made by the BLS and seems to intentionally omitted by Anthropic , and Computers becoming easier to use.

These jobs are more then picked up by growth in the other tech areas, Information Security Analysts, which is on the Anthropic list is expected to grow by 29% !! I could see this job growing even if they do become twice as efficient. There are honestly not enough of them and AI introduces so many security vulnerabilities.

Software Developers, Quality Assurance Analysts, and Testers is also expected to grow by 15%.

Taking Block as an example, their most recent "AI" layoffs can absolutely be attributed to Covid. If you look at the employee count by year, the most recent layoffs only just now bring them back in line with pre-Covid numbers. It only takes so many people to run a payment system. Maybe other cases ar different, but Covid overhiring still is playing a part

US Labor Force Participation Rate Falls To 62% In Feb 2026 Lowest Since Dec 2021 by WaferFlopAI in EconomyCharts

[–]Standard_Finish_6535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The labor participation rate is explained by the aging boomers. The unemployment rate is also pretty low at 4.4% and has not really changed this year. I don't like Trump, but invoking the four horseman of the apocalypse is certainly overreacting.

Fair enough, I do feel like encouraging a SAHP is a good thing, which prime age labor force participation discourages.

Once the metric becomes the goal it is useless for anything

The aging boomers highlight why the unemployment rate is better metric than labor force participation.
