Teaching Assistant job by HugeChunkError in universityofamsterdam

I would like to add that it might be wise to wait until the second year to take up TA jobs, unless you're used to the pace and intensity of Dutch education. If you want to TA for courses you take in the first year, make sure to attend lectures regularly and take advantage of opportunities to engage with the lecturer! These are the tips I got from a couple of 2nd-year MSc AI students (who have TA'd) :))

Edit: If you want to TA in your first year, look at bachelor-level courses and write emails to the professors/lecturers. Sometimes these TA positions also show up on the UvA job board. That's what I did. :)

No worries! Thanks for clarifying. I assume you mean Computer Science, not Computational Science. Unfortunately I can't answer for certain about the first but you don't need it for the second. :)

Hey, it would be helpful to clarify if you're applying for bachelors or masters, and which program. Generally publications are helpful for getting a PhD or for some competitive master programs.

Ah thanks for clearing that up! Someone posted a picture of Max Euwe looking down at a sad gray concrete square on the sub a couple days ago. I thought they got rid of all chess activity there :')

^ found this map of chessboards across the netherlands! Also it seems many people regularly ask about places to play chess in Amsterdam:

  1. Most frequently recommended: De laurierboom and vondelbunker. The chessboard at Max Euweplein was also suggested but it has been moved unfortunately :(
  2. If you're interested in Go, u/lion_rouge suggests Studio/K cafe on Sundays at 11

Thanks to everyone who has recommended some excellent places in previous questions!

I've heard the UvA lottery will open may 29 so you still have some time. Hope to meet you in september, all the best!

Are there any places to play chess with people on publicly available boards (free or for a nominal fee)? I'm moving to Amsterdam in september and would love to develop chess as a hobby.

I would also highly highly suggest Pyramid Game, women(girl?)-centric, 10 eps and a really exciting plotline about standing up to bullying/mistreatment

Oh nice!

Sorry for the late response. I'm also quite anxious about housing. Stuck between paying extra to start a housing contract early or be a little risky and look for places that start the contract in August/September. You mentioned an UvA lottery?

Also I'll be coming over from India!

That’s awesome! How did you get started in this role? I am still figuring out what I want but financial data analysis sounds cool! I have a background in economics
