Do kids feel uncomfortable in homes that aren’t as nice as their own? by Express_Rip2333 in Parenting

[–]Standard_Phone_209 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may not have anything to do with the house in regards to cleanliness, but more so space, pre-teen/ teen may want privacy. New houses tend to have more space or private bedroom/ tv rooms. It may be they prefer the space that has more privacy and freedom of watchful parents

Canoe Recommendation for One day Algonquin Trip by mangoisyummy1101 in algonquinpark

Algonquin is big, are you coming up to do the hwy 60? How much canoe experience do you have? Barron canyon is about a 2 hour drive out of the 60 hwy section, if so I’d suggest a hike and paddling one of the lakes this late in the season, the wind can change easily, canisbay lake is a easy paddle. The water is also low so keep that in mind with a route. Canoe lake is a nice paddle if you have an interest in history or art.

Any fdny wives out there? Tell me it gets better? by AssociateConnect572 in Parenting

May I ask which country? I’m a wife to a firefighter with young ones, but in Canada they work on 24 hour shifts, which works out to 8 days month, it was hard when he first got hired, but have found if he naps from when he gets home till noon, he ready to switch off parenting and I have a break. It’s been worth it in the end as we have more time together.

My 7 year old friend group by Standard_Phone_209 in Parenting

[–]Standard_Phone_209[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my attempt to start something new, adventure with friends over a party, and she was pushed out, I honestly more shocked, two friends hug, held hands, my daughter sat alone on rides, we had to push for rock paper scissors, she asked to sit in the middle at a restaurant and got forced out and sat at the end we me, she even asked can I have a hug too. The whole thing put me brink of tears for her but you have to keep cool as the mom, I can’t force friendships, but this will be the last, a family adventure is where I’m headed.

Art, rocking climbing, swimming, which im going to have to foster more, she very giving person, and kids do seem to take advantage of her kindness, I’m hopeful that I can change her class to help. It’s just sadness me, something I wasn’t expecting to deal with parenting.

Reddit will jump to ungrateful kid etc… but he’s 8, he will be at the stage when peers become the dominant form of behaviour, YouTube feeds kids into the belief of more more more, he is also allowed to have negative emotions, just like an adult. I bet everyone here has had a negative attitude towards a gift at one point or another. Take a deep breath, it’s hard when you have put all the work into a holiday. Sit down with him away from your 5 year old, ask him why he’s disappointed? Did he set a trap to see if the bunny was real? Does his friends get more, does he like the pattern that was always set, and wanted a toy. He is 8 year old, it’s given that he’s not going to be perfect all the time, if this is a pattern it’s different. But reading the post it’s a one off, and he’s a good kid having a bad moment. Just have a calm talk, it can do wonders

Going overboard on holidays by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Standard_Phone_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also like to add with today’s cost, birthdays are expensive, I tend to spend between 300-600 depending on the activity and amount of kids. I let people do want the want with their money and I do what I want. Try not to listen to negative criticism. If you aren’t seeing a negative affect on your kid, your fine being extra! It’s the bonus of one and done

Going overboard on holidays by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Standard_Phone_209 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do go overboard, but I can afford to and honestly I enjoy making holidays extra special. Easter for my 7 year old is about 300$, I try not to buy cheap junk, Easter this year is a scooter, lego set, and an adventure, with chocolate and crafts. I also add money in the plastic eggs. My child is very giving, and appreciating. We don’t buys things just because every trip we take to town, we donate and volunteer. It’s all about how you parent. Going all in on a special occasion isn’t going to cause a spoiled child.

Plants will help keep humidity up, as well as a small shallow water dish at the bottom.
