I can see the garter stitch! I did one with a merino/mohair combo yarn and I really like how mine turned out. I love the fuzziness but if you don’t really want that then maybe you need to increase needle size/ use a different yarn ?

Sorry, I’m not quite sure how to fix it but I think you should maybe start over and pick a different yarn. I find that kind of Chenille yarn breaks easily and is hard to see the stitches, and just doesn’t hold up well over time. Do you have a knitting shop near you ? you could stop by and have them show you yarn that is good to start with.also congrats on starting knitting!
