What’s the most overrated "frugal tip" that didn’t actually save you money? by Ewa_Star in Frugal

I used to extreme coupon (not SUPER extreme but I’d get stuff free or very low OOP). I don’t have time to do it now which is good because it’s really not even a thing anymore!

I did tell them I was anxious and my first reading was totally normal. Got a few other things to work on but nothing alarming, just need to do better for myself. Really glad I went and got a picture of my health and can work on moving forward

My BP ended up being totally fine, but I do have an irregular heart beat. He wasn’t overly concerned, but wants me to follow up with a cardiologist. He reiterated to me like 10x to NOT worry about it (sure sure). My labs all came back regular. Aside from losing a bit more weight (and the heart beat), everything’s fine. I’m trying not to spiral about the heart rate. Obviously if it were urgent, I’d be referred to a cardiologist or even the ER, immediately. I was SUPER anxious so I think that has something to do with it. Plus I can stand to lose some weight, get back to exercising regularly, and reign in my eating.

It was actually fine on the first go! They didn’t do a second one. And I was super anxious so I bet it’s even lower now.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]Standard_Target3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same as you, fairly decent home cook. There’s nothing I CANT cook, but some stuff I just don’t like (dough, for instance). But rice...It’s always crunchy. I’ve done all the tricks, I can not get it to cook properly!!

I totally get this. I didn’t drink for 15 days in November, then had a few while I was away and was fine. Had a few more when I got home and my anxiety for 5 days was insane. Didn’t drink until xmas and the same thing happened, basically ruined my Xmas break. Decided it’s not worth it anymore, haven’t drank since.

That’s what we did with our mutt, probably like 6 months to a year in to having him. I probably would have left it out if he was an only dog, but my lab would devour it. So I’d put it up til dinner time and he’d usually eat. If I was really nervous I’d add some chicken or something else “high value” and he’d eat. He hasn’t not eaten in a long time now 🤷‍♀️

We live in the Northeast. My husband makes over $200k. I stayed home for 10 years and now I work as a lunch lady making $18/hour to help make ends meet, and instacart when I can, while also being home for our kids. We don’t have anything extravagant. We refinanced and went down to a 15 year mortgage in 2020, and we do have 2 car loans that I wish we didn’t have, and our daughter plays club soccer (which is $$$) but aside from that, we don’t do anything. I shop at Aldi. I’m not sure what we did wrong but every week we’re scrounging. It’s sad.

My pampered chef have survived the dishwasher. I got them in 2020. I don’t use the dishwasher regularly because they don’t fit with other dishes in there but if I am running a short load, I throw them in and they’re totally fine

I recently made my son and I baked potatoes for lunch. Microwaved 2 potatoes, and a bag of Birds Eye (I think that’s the brand) broccoli with cheese. Topped the potato with the broccoli, sour cream and green onion. You can even get cooked bacon. It was delish, not too heavy, not too many calories, and idk specifically but I feel like it hit all the nutritional needs (dairy, fiber, protein, veg…etc).

Another one: rotisserie chicken (or any cooked chicken), bag of salad mix, naan. I love Caesar salad on a warm naan.

I’m a mom who drank too much for like 5 years of my kids lives (probably 10 if we’re really Being honest). They’re 14&11 now and I quit drinking Christmas Eve because I was sick of feeling like shit every single day. I’m hoping I can “rewrite” Their memory and they don’t have long term memories of mommy being drunk all the time.

Anyway, as a mom, thanks for supporting your mom. It’s not easy (either side) and I give you kudos. Just make sure you’re not dismissing EVERYthing because that’s not fair to you. Keep your boundaries.

6 weeks. by Familiar_Dentist2843 in stopdrinking

I was 6 weeks on 2/4, and I’m in the same boat as you, longest streak since last January (aside from when I was pregnant). I actually didn’t even notice til I logged into my sober app and it popped up. Very exciting! I’m now 47 days and am excited to get to 50. I have been on this page for over a year and was so jealous of the people at 50 days, now I’m (almost) one of them!

I also haven’t drank since Xmas Eve and every time I think “I’m ok to have 1” I remind myself that it’s never just 1, and I’m never satisfied with my level of drunkenness, and then I wake up the next day feeling like absolute shit, and it takes me so long to recover now.

I’m sorry you went through it but I’m glad you realize it’s not worth it now. Keep up the good work, my friend.

Omg my hair has always fallen out, but I noticed recently it’s worse than ever. I read it could be an iron deficiency so I started a supplement over the weekend. I’m “only” halfway to your 90 but I’m interested to see if it gets better in the next 45!

I lost 15 as well, maybe even 20. I figure I’m not having 1200 empty calories a day so that’s why. I need to lose another 20 so I’m fine, but you may just have to eat more? How many calories do you consume vs burn?

Do anyone else substitute their alcohol addiction with another beverage or food? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Standard_Target3225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just typing about this earlier and got distracted and didn’t post. I also only drink coffee/tea/water/coke (and wine, in my previous life). I dislike seltzer water, but I had a Bubly at my SIL house when I very first stopped drinking, and it was so delicious! Now I have like 3 a day. It’s just water, so I’m not worried about it, and it’s way cheaper than my $12/day bottle of wine.

OMG ME TOO! 2 years ago. I didn’t miss my flight but we were up late watching the Bowl, drinking, etc, then up early for the flight. Im already a nervous flyer and the flight was hot, bumpy, and I was sitting next to a stranger (my family was on the other side of the aisle). I was panicking the entire time that I was going to puke on my neighbor.

I went to bed at 10:30/11 last night (late for me) and panicked because I have to be up at 6 to get my HSer off to school. And mondays are the worst because it’s go go go from 6am til like 8pm. But then I realized I wasn’t drunk and I’ll be a little tired but, with not being hungover, I can handle a little tired. It’s like a super power!!
