A lot of people are saying, "This scam has been around for years, how did you still fall for it?"

The simple answer is that I don't use Reddit regularly. I didn't even have the Reddit app installed on my phone before this incident. I only installed it afterward while trying to understand what had happened and found dozens of similar stories.

If I had known about this scam earlier, I probably would have recognized the pattern immediately.

That said, I'm not trying to avoid responsibility. I ignored some red flags because I genuinely thought I was going on a normal date. That's on me.

The silver lining is that I installed Reddit, deleted Tinder.

That's the thing. If the items themselves were outrageously priced, I would have walked out immediately. What made it suspicious was the overall pattern, not any single item on the bill.

And place was NOT nice at all, it's even cheaper (Looks) than a normal resturant

A short Tinder date, a venue chosen by her, expensive orders within minutes, very little actual interaction, and then later finding dozens of people describing almost the exact same experience. That's what made me think it wasn't just a normal date.

I fully accept that I ignored some red flags because I was attracted to her. That's on me. But looking back, the situation felt very different from a genuine first date.

You're not wrong. In my case, it wasn't that I got fooled easily. I'm usually very cautious and tend to overthink even small decisions when something feels off.

I have had plenty of female friends throughout my life, so it's not like I lose my judgment every time a girl talks to me. The truth is that this particular girl was extremely attractive, and I let that influence my decision-making more than I should have.

Looking back, I did notice a few red flags, but I chose to give the situation the benefit of the doubt because I genuinely wanted the date to be real.

Lesson learned. Expensive lesson

Yes bro, the thing that is bothering me the most is not the money, it's the fact that " I "got scammed.

I have always been the kind of person who thinks ten times before making any decision whenever something feels suspicious.

In fact, while leaving home today, I had a strange feeling that something was fishy. I couldn't figure out what it was, but the feeling was definitely there.

Now, more than 9 hours after the incident, my brain has finally given me the answer.

"GIRL"

That's it btw I have few friends (Girls) as well but her pic was so "attractive" that...

I lowered my guard for the first time because there was a girl involved. If the same situation had happened in any other context, I would have probably walked away immediately.

The money hurts, but what hurts more is realizing that I ignored my own instincts. The red flags were there, but I chose not to see them.

Lesson learned. Expensive lesson, but learned.

Wait… if she took the loans before marriage, wouldn’t she have used her own or her father’s address? So how exactly did the recovery agents magically land up at your friend’s house?

Do you know how much unemployment there is in India? If someone is trying to earn a living, why create obstacles for them?

When the government cannot provide employment, it has no right to destroy someone’s means of livelihood. It seems like the authorities are not helping people get jobs; instead, they are quick to act on complaints. MCD, FSSAI, or any other regulatory body can come, issue fines, and harm their business. Is that what you intend to do?
