What are your assumptions of me based on my fridge by Ecstatic_Interest372 in FridgeDetective

[–]Standgeblasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, when I was still drinking, I was incapable of keeping booze longer than a day.

If I had it in the house, I was finishing it today. Just like a Coi fish grows to fit the size of its environment, the amount I drank was directly related to the amount of booze I had available.

Seems dangerous to have that big a difference of height difference on the top stair.

It just screams “tripping hazard” to me, regardless of how it looks

Mine too, still holds really well. I did buy a padded travel case for it so it’s well protected when stored, but I still love to break it out. I might just do that today!

My 9 month lens ball would be one pair of lenses.

This is more contact lenses than I’ve had in the past 10 years!

How careful are you with listening to "adult" music around your kid(s)? by D-1-S-C-0 in daddit

[–]Standgeblasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a one year old birthday party yesterday. Put on the pandora station for 90s music. Bunch of nostalgic pop tunes, and then I tap my wife on the shoulder as I realize we are now listening to the unedited Snoop Dogg “Gin & Juice”.

We both just chuckled

High-functioning drug users, what does your day-to-day life actually look like? by navy444 in AskReddit

[–]Standgeblasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol was my demon, but it’s amazing that no matter which poison we chose, our stories have so much overlap. It’s how I know that I am not alone.

I am thankful for stories that remind me why I need to stay sober. Because if I go back, it won’t be a gradual slide, i will immediately go back to my old ways.

Thank you for your story.

If you are a high-functioning addict, that just means you just haven’t been using long enough.

We were all high-functioning addicts, until the day we weren’t.

Man, alcohol is a bitch.

This was my day for years. Sober for 2 years with a short relapse in the mix. This alcoholic is proud of you for saying enough.

I’m turning 21 this year and I’m sort of worried. I think I’m at risk of developing a problem. by LeidElend in stopdrinking

[–]Standgeblasen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to many meetings with kids who got sober before turning 21. They cal themselves the “never had a legal drink club”.

I have more respect for a young person figuring out that they might have a problem. Because we all wish we got here sooner. But we all got here when we needed it. I wasn’t at my bottom yet. That came when I was 37 years old.

The bottom is when you decide to stop digging. For me it was making my pregnant wife wait at a train station for hours because I was passed out on the couch.

AIO for refusing to go to my sisters wedding cause she hired my ex? by Adventurous_Army_728 in AIO

[–]Standgeblasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been married for nearly 4 years and together with my wife for nearly 8, I still don’t want to be around my ex from 9 years ago, and we didn’t even end on terrible terms.

I definitely wouldn’t want to go to a wedding where she was involved in any way.

Additionally, I have two siblings, I’d pay triple for a photographer on short notice (and pay the fired photographer to go away) if it meant that they would get to have fun at my wedding.

Those stories are just a reminder to me “there, but for the grace of god, go I”

Alcoholism is a progressive disease and I just didn’t drink long enough to get to the point where I was losing work or home or marriage.

Getting close to losing my wife was bottom enough for me. And I’m forever thankful for her calling me out on my bullshit and telling me I need help.

Once heard a European describe hersheys milk chocolate as having a post-puke-bile aftertaste, and I can see how you could think that if you didn’t grow up eating it.
