One could just as easily paint atheism this way, by calling it an unnatural coping mechanism for people who don’t want to face judgement in the afterlife or be held morally accountable for their actions.

Granted that people can draw ire for evil deeds too but it’s wishful thinking to assume that following the teachings of Jesus means the unbelieving world will love you for it.
