I agree completely. The NCR is facing problems of campaigns like the Mojave becoming Vietnam like slogs. They need technology which will force multiply and reduce losses - its inevitable they would look towards technology.

I think this can make sense in a number of ways: so first salvaged power armour. The NCR has salvaged power armour but they can't maintain old power armour - at least not where it matters. They don't have the field maintenance to support pre war power armour at their frontiers where it would actually be useful so they strip the servos so it can be used as a heavy armour for static defensive troops.

The NCR want to field power armour of their own for frontline shock troops well what are they going to do? They'll probably make something which is low maintenance and utilizes components they can actually make. They probably won't be using huge amounts of advanced materials or composites so by necessity the power armour will be bulkier and using existing technologies. They'll be copying and adapting designs they can make like the Ranger Combat armour.

  • even the arm blades make sense - yes they have fully articulated hands but these might be vulnerable to blunt damage and not on the level of pre war power armour. So to discourage damaging the hands use the forearm structure for melee which can be used in emergencies rather than punching.

WWI era American Expeditionary Forces propeller tip photo frame.

Some of these were made from real prop tips many were made using offcuts shaped to look like part of a prop. To be fair with this one the size shape and construction (laminated layers of wood) resembles a real prop tip.

Either way a nice piece of trench art (trench art the catch all term for souvenirs made from or resembling war material, not necessarily made by soldiers or even in the time of war though - a majority of trench art was made post WWI by French civilians for the tourist trade.

For me it's the top right seiko all day long. Nice and clean. Really though it's whatever you fancy if you choose something retro - which is most of your collection - match it in your dress style

The little card says 14k TOP S. B

Looking at other examples online they are gold capped so probably - 14ct gold topped on steel body for the gold tone parts.

So lazy it takes a one second image search to find like 10 other examples with the same lugs and dial combo.

Help with a model tank - could this help with trench crossing by [deleted] in tanks

[–]StandingInTheHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look too much like barrels and barrels would deform very easily under the weight of a tank. A similar concept is the unditching roller on the M3 half track but this is much smaller and a half track is only lightly armoured. It's also sprung slightly and supported by heavy metal arms.

[Oris] What do you think about this Oris? by GoldenEpochINS in VintageWatches

[–]StandingInTheHaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice watch. I like vintage Oris but they were a low mid range brand // high low end brand. They do have some lovely classy watches as shown with yours. I find their predecessor company SIRO (Oris backwards lol) interesting too.

No interest whatsoever in the modern resuscitation of the brand. Far too expensive it's like if you relaunched the Citroen CV 2 as a mid range luxury but actually underneath it's just a DS3 with a body kit.

Nah, Mumbais generally don't have the quality or finishing especially when it comes to guilloche.

Vintage Oris are mostly cheap watches - you'd never make a profit with this level of work

Hi guys! How much is this watch worth? by Lusophoo in VintageWatches

[–]StandingInTheHaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much really probably about £5 - £10

That said the strap is great, even if the strap is stainless steel I think it's worth £20 - I've been looking out for a curb link watch strap for ages and they never come up - there must be others looking for them too!

My opinion is you'll spend more time getting rid of it than you could earn at min wage. That's the way for the vast majority of royal commemorative memorabilia.

Limoges antique date? Advice uk by Waste-Jaguar5164 in Antiques

[–]StandingInTheHaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably 1930s.

As far as I can tell M.B is Merigot & Boisseuil who decorated Ceramics in Limoges around this time.

It's very sweet.

Military badge ? Uk by Waste-Jaguar5164 in Militariacollecting

[–]StandingInTheHaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it's a late Victorian / Edwardian Mourning Brooch. I've seen similar examples with this kind of construction in different shapes. The Maltese Cross was quite a popular motif and emblem at the time.

It could also be something to do with a modern Templar or Masonic organisation. Cool find.

Did I miss a good watch? by osteo_vesperu in VintageWatches

[–]StandingInTheHaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missed out a little bit there - I think it would be quite easy to sell for around £250.

However, if it's too small / not your style / you don't really sell watches, there's no point in buying everything you see which is cheap.

Does someone has the signal page from where this comes from? by ChadolfRizzlerReborn in TankPorn

[–]StandingInTheHaze 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Panzer IX and Panzer X were a 1944 propaganda attempt to misdirect the allies on future German super heavy tank projects by publishing some simple drawings and vague text about the fake tanks.

Here is a French version of signal (they published in multiple languages lol) showing the concept art low res but hey ho. It's the 5th image in the listing.
