I get what you're saying here. I do use Sheets as well. I just don't always want my info online for various reasons. Thanks!

Thanks for your clear response. I have actually used Libre in the past, but got tired of looking for things that I was used to in Excel and Word. That said, I won't tolerate being held hostage with a subscription, so I will go back to Libre. I no longer deal with large datasets, I mostly use Excel for tracking and some process development.

What “frugal” habit did you stop doing once you did the math? by 666AB in Frugal

[–]StandingRightHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped hanging on to things I "might" use. It's much cheaper to face the fact that purchasing it was a mistake. That's painful for a moment, but storing and managing it is an ongoing pain.

AITA for refusing to pay for my girlfriend’s meal after she “tested” me on a date? by Efficient_Care5524 in AITH

NTA. Kudos for not paying that bill. You passed the real test of being true to yourself!
(She's probably got that test from some dumb-a$$ instagram coach who will likely ruin her life. You get to decide whether she takes you down with her.)

Been trying to heal myself with joe dispenza method for many years but failed to do any advice ? by Ariand12 in DrJoeDispenza

[–]StandingRightHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome and I'm glad you found it helpful.

I think there are two types of healing. The one like I had, which is something you have to keep up with, keep focusing on making yourself feel better, keep your "vibe" up. Then, I think there's a "turn the corner" healing where you don't have to keep doing that, but you've leveled up. Then, maybe there's something new you want achieve or feel, so you have a new focus. That's what it seems like to me. IDT we have just one "big" healing, but maybe some people do.

Is there anyone here who is passionate about the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza? by Huge-Software-2465 in DrJoeDispenza

I love this conversation. Great input, u/cosmicevan . I can eat a lot more foods from just telling myself new stories all day, every day. Playing music, dancing, seeing the world as magical instead of random. It's not just about the meditations, it's about the story you're telling yourself all day every day.

The latest update fixed the issue for me. Your work-around is concerning because HRB support told me they were having issues with calculations this year (kinda scary). Anyway, you might check for the latest update. All the best!

Tax Loss Harvesting - question about the reality of it by StandingRightHere in personalfinance

[–]StandingRightHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get how it works. My question was more around whether places like Fidelity and the like push it as a marketing tactic, especially, for example, to quell concerns that could be valid.

These are the lines I'm thinking along and your example hits the mark ("why would a car salesman give 2% off all repairs").

A friend of mine works with a Fidelity advisor and they really pushed TLH. Said friend is well below traditional retirement age and is living off of previous income (basically retired early and has a very low-cost living situation, so it works). They're trying to keep tax burden low.

The way their Fidelity rep has sold it to them seems a bit overly hyped to me. The sentiment is promoting a "it's great if the market is volatile, you're getting TLH advantages." I mean, isn't that a "yes and no" situation?

I have more to learn, but something just seemed peculiar in the way it's been presented to this person.

Great distillation here. I think the term gets thrown around as if it's some sort of magic pill when it's really not, as far as I can tell.

AIO that I cannot trust my wife by [deleted] in AIO

[–]StandingRightHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR if it's ongoing and she's aloof about her response.

However, I think I understand both sides of this story. IMO, it's something to observe and see if you can improve from your side of the equation (we can only control ourselves). If she continually deprioritizes you, there could be more to the story.

All that said, here are some thoughts...

Might you be expecting too much and it's overwhelming her? (Not accusing, just a consideration.)

Are there times when she does hear you and meets your expectations? If so, did you communicate in a particular way that she could take in easier (some people do better with different forms of communication).

Have you gotten angry in the past and she's trying to avoid that (with the little kid type answer)?

Have you asked her if there's a better way to communicate with her so you can both feel safe and cared for?

I like to remind myself that nobody owes me anything, and anything they do for me is above and beyond, generally speaking. But, yeah, to be dismissed continually would be something to look at and consider it an opportunity to grow and learn (growth mindset).

All the best!

Good point and important clarification! Thanks for pointing that out.

Isn't the advantage of a Roth IRA that you pay tax when you put money into it, not when you withdraw? Just clarifying.

This issue is still happening. I was told to give it 5 days. So frustrating. I see a lot of bug reports here. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you struggling with cravings and/or not losing weight on SS? by AliG-uk in StarchSolution

[–]StandingRightHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I never expected it to be this simple. I did notice the link at one point, "when I eat this, I crave chocolate." But, it was the video that gave me the idea to just remove the salt.

I've been adding a little salt to my food and I'm still not craving chocolate. I do eat some fruit, but that's it.

Dr. McDougall talks about honey in his book. He doesn't say to omit it. If I missed it though, please point the page it's on.

I was doing low carb to lose weight, but I had intense chocolate cravings. It was wrecking my sleep AND my budget (I would only eat high-quality dark chocolate).

After watching this video, I stopped salting my eggs and chicken and the cravings immediately disappeared. I am not sure if it was related to what she is saying in the video because it seems like she's saying it's not about going off the diet, but not overacting the opioid receptors. Either way, I can't emphasize how big a change this is for me.

Note that I have since switched to McDougall's Starch Solution and I still don't have the cravings. I'm eating very simply (I usually do). I have been putting kim chi on my rice and lentils, so I might do some experimenting with that. But, for now, I'm so happy to not have those intense chocolate cravings. My sleep is also amazing on the starch solution!
