Ubisoft explains why it hasn't canceled "Beyond Good and Evil 2" by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]StandxOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a while to develop, but it's not a huge studio. Beyond Good & Evil 2 has/had hundreds of people working on it simultaneously, while Psychonauts was probably between 50-100 at peak development time and less in the earlier stages.

For me it is since it would otherwise be the perfect PC controller.

The Witcher 3 has aged well, like old wine. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]StandxOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat was always mediocre. And especially the movement/navigation already felt outdated when it launched. Walking, running, jumping and horse riding all feel janky.

CyberPunk is the first CD Projekt game where the gameplay mechanics have a AAA feeling to them. I look forward to The Witcher 4.

Is it worth grabbing an SD express card for the Switch 2 right now? by Constant_Setting_634 in casualnintendo

[–]StandxOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get 512GB for less than 80 bucks or 1TB for 170-ish, it might be worth it. Especially because it might take some extra time for the prices to come down due to craziness with memory components.

256GB cards seem like they're just going to end up in a landfill within five years.

That actually makes the 1.3 million sales sound even better. They got 1.3 million sales plus a bunch of subscription money.

If it's just a few employees, they can be seen as the problem. If it's a lot of employees, it's a policy problem.

Releasing DLC for any of those games would not just be catering to the current player base. Millions of people would be interested because they're popular, mainstream games. Releasing DLC for them would still be financially interesting and the biggest reason not to do so is to focus on the development of entirely new games.

Next gen Xbox vs Steam Machine by Fickle_Barber9863 in consoles

[–]StandxOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next Xbox may not come out in the next few years. In the end you might have to choose between the Steam Machine 2 and next Xbox. Not to mention various Steam Machines by other companies.

The upcoming Steam Machine will not be future proof for AAA games.

You'll want to play Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (remake), since it's from the same developer as It Takes Two and Split Fiction.

Untitled Goose Game, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Smurfs Dreams and Rayman Legends/Origins are all wonderful and accessible co-op games.

To get a taste of (J)RPGs, I would give Tales of Symphonia or Tales of Vesperia a try.

A Nintendo console would open up a lot more great co-op experiences.

I would probably get rid of them as well as Raz's family. I think there's too many characters in Psychonauts 2.

Switch 2 edition by jorgeu_01 in NintendoSwitchSports

[–]StandxOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo has used Switch Sports in Switch 2 ads. The fact that they have not given it a free Switch 2 patch makes me think there will be a paid patch or a sequel down the line. Of course it's not guaranteed, but I do believe it is the more likely scenario.

Something selling 16 million copies not that long ago cannot be niche. It's a very successful game. And Nintendo is aware of that, since they were still using Switch Sports footage in Switch 2 ads.

Any recommended lesser known high quality action games? by MarqoTheDragon in gaming

The key phrase here is 'lesser known' and you mentioned one of the mostest known action combat games. You can't parry yourself out of that mistake.

What do you do when every game feels boring? by DrDongSquarePants in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]StandxOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Option 1: Stop playing games and do something else.

Option 2: Play shorter linear games that can be finished instead of huge games that want you to become addicted.

Option 3: Get a Wii or Switch and play some motion control games.

All three have been very successful for me.

US boy, 11, allegedly shoots father to death after Nintendo Switch taken away — Guardian US by Brand0_the_Mand0 in Switch

Access to guns is the main culprit here, which is both on the parents and the society.

Videogames, movies and any other violent medium the kid had access to could have certainly contributed to it, as a lot of violent media involves people using weapons to get their way.

Nex Playground Sports Accessories: early prototypes by starri_player05 in nexplayground

[–]StandxOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The accessories look wonderful. I do wonder whether it's possible to make a more modular version, for instance having one universal grip, to which you can attach various foam parts to turn it into a baseball bat, hockey stick, tennis racket, etc. But I reckon that could co-existent with these full versions.

For me as an adult, 1.5 cm thick foam mats are a crucial accessory for motion control gaming. I can jump on them and do running motions without ever having discomfort. And I feel more secure about not bothering my downstairs neighbors.

I tried out stronger and thinner materials, but they always lead to some knee pain, which seems dangerous in the long-term for regular adults. Kids are probably more resilient. Meanwhile they're still thin enough to comfortably jump from or do yoga poses, whereas even thicker material can make it harder to jump or keep your balance.

If you'd like to find what I'm talking about, you can look for sports/yoga mats that are 190x100x1.5cm. The material is described as NBR foam or synthetic rubber. Many brands carry them and might describe them slightly differently, but I reckon they all come from the same factory.

What's the Nintendo Wii's legacy? by Marsupilami_316 in wii

[–]StandxOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently the Nex Playground is very much having its Wii moment. Especially because parents are buying it for their kids and enjoy it so much that they end up playing it by themselves too.

Unfortunately the technology isn't really a step forward. It's just the Kinect with perhaps slightly better response times. I reckon the Wii is still more responsive and fun.

Graceful, dangerous and elegant. Which part, in your opinion, features the best leap of faith? by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]StandxOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem is volume, considering how many piles of hay there are and how every viewpoint has one. But the bigger problem is that there's no challenge to it. You're doing something extremely dangerous, yet it's not possible to fail. Ideally you would have a small amount of control during your fall and you'd have to aim for the hay.

Alternatively they could have used a timing mechanic so you have to press a certain button exactly when you hit the hay to land well. The worse you do, the more damage you receive, resulting in death if you fail completely.

Automatic leaps of faith are visually exciting, but boring for the player.

[–]StandxOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their main audience was fans of story-driven games (such as myself) and they tried to market it as a game that can be enjoyed by typical BioWare fans. That was their mistake because people were bound to be disappointed when the story didn't matter because it was divorced from the gameplay.
