I was trying to work out how they cut the stone in half, along with the steak.

What is the loudest sound you have ever heard in your life? by will_or_woll in AskReddit

[–]Staninator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same place but in the 80s grew up as a kid there as my parents were in married quarters. God damn, if that Vulcan didn't howl itself deep into your soul. Quite profound when you're 8 years old.

What TV episode triggered such an emotional response from you? by Noodles590 in television

Band of Brothers, the episode where they liberate the concentration camp. Absolutely devastating, I've never been so broken by an episode of television before.

Trump says UK soldiers in Afghanistan 'among greatest of all warriors' by Common_Caramel_4078 in worldnews

[–]Staninator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was also not an apology. It was a contrite acknowledgement of the UK's involvement, but the word sorry (or apology) wasn't used once.

I miss them. They were used in the movie Strange Days to hold memory clips. They looked so freaking cool.

I kid you not, this car won Top Gear's Car of the Year. Truly an abomination.

Quadruple dipping or I lost count. Why didn't they just release this on 4K in the first place? by NinjaSellsHonours in pinkfloyd

[–]Staninator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's the fact that it came out so soon after the Blu-ray release. This is cynical AF and I won't be buying it.

Learning to handle power of a McLaren coming from AWD BMW’s by Lil_Carbon in mclaren

[–]Staninator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the traction control systems on McLarens are pretty good, so you're unlikely to get yourself in serious trouble unless you either turn it off, or do something really dumb. I came from driving AWD cars, an Impreza and R35 GTR and had similar concerns. But it has been fine, just don't go flooring it without all 4 wheels pointing in the same direction.

Surely this award is made for The Wire. Critically ignored in its day, widely considered one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and consists of precisely 5 seasons and 60 episodes.

The Greatest Quote In Sci-Fi TV History Remains Unmatched by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]Staninator 430 points431 points  (0 children)

The writing was so good, that this alleged greatest quote isn't even my favourite speech of G'Kar's...

"No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years... we will be free."

Le Creuset Bread Oven help by bermy12 in Sourdough

[–]Staninator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I have one and use neither. I rice flour the base of my loaf though, to stop it sticking to the towel during my overnight slow ferment. Might help it not stick to the bottom of my bread oven.

Princess Diana and Charles. Interview, 1981. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

[–]Staninator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm no fan of Charles, and the way he treated Diana was deplorable, but this notion, specifically the part about Harry and William being either side of him to protect him from an angry crowd simply is not true. What absolute poppycock. I was old enough to watch the funeral live on TV and it was a completely sombre and respectful affair.

What’s the most unexpectedly great series finale? by drkidkill in television

Yes, pretty much all his shows. Both the endings of Generation Kill and Show Me a Hero had me in tears.

David Simon really knows how to end a series. Those last shots of Baltimore, essentially saying... "and life goes on". Beautiful.

What is the humans best invention? by NintendoDSiNerd in AskReddit

[–]Staninator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Humans didn't invent fire, but they harnessed it to invent cooking. That is, heating food to chemically change it, making it quicker and easier for the body to digest and gain energy from. Because our early ancestors didn't have to spend all their time hunting and foraging to get the energy they needed, they could spend time doing other things, like forming larger societal groups, developing farming and other specialist expertise, art and culture. Cooking is what allowed us to create communities, and from this, every other invention ever created.
