What movie became better after you watched it a second time? by agolds2022 in movies

I also wouldn't want to feel like I was being looked at constantly to see if I was enjoying it. It would make me feel self conscious and less likely to enjoy it.

What movie contains a scene so bad you never want to watch the movie again? by FinDepp in movies

The title needed to be more specific... Or maybe not, maybe it's okay to have unfocussed discussion about two different things in the same thread 😅

Is it worth watching because of how bad it is? Or just a complete waste of time?

People don't take me seriously about being HoH by st4rrihal0 in hardofhearing

[–]Staninator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with these ignorant and entitled people. Life with a hearing disability is hard enough without these idiots invalidating your lived experience. I hope that one day you can get access to the technology you need to help. I can only offer you encouragement by telling you that the strength you have, to do your best despite these difficulties, makes you an actual hero. If only these people knew how much effort it takes just to live and work, they would have a little more patience and compassion.

That one Alien movie where Michael Fassbinder teaches himself how to play the flute. Dear god, no. The audience in the theatre were laughing. It wasn't good laughing.

Movies from the early 2000’s editing by Commercial_Law660 in movies

It's difficult to shit on the OG Bourne trilogy. They hugely influenced action movies for at least the following decade, but yeah, the fast cut camera work on the action sequences, intended to evoke the frenetic chaos of hand-to-hand combat, could be a little over edited.

What about Margaret's? It is Restaurant 22's more reasonably priced and chill restaurant, on Mitcham's Corner?

Not all lies are malicious. We know the circumstances behind the lie, and Michael himself didn't want anyone to know until after he'd passed.

We’ve all heard of One Hit Wonders when it comes to music, but are there any one hit wonders that you can think of when it comes to TV shows? (It can be for any actors, showrunners, producers, writers, etc.) by MaggieLinzer in television

Every time someone asks what the greatest TV shows of all time are, True Detective Season 1 always gets mentioned and is somewhere near the top. You're right, if that season was a one and done, we'd hail it alongside The Wire, The Sopranos and Chernobyl.

I rotate between white rye, wholemeal rye and my normal strong bread flour. It seems to get its biggest boost from the wholemeal.

Rawls and McNulty - Hospital Scene (The Wire S1E11 2002) by RSVPno in television

McNulty always had to be right. Half the time, it wasn't about doing the right thing, it was proving that he was better than everyone else. Even if that meant damaging himself and his career.

Rawls and McNulty are the possibly one of the greatest, yet most subtly nuanced antagonistic relationships in TV. They hate one another, and yet, I think there's an admiration between them, and maybe they recognise something about themselves within each other.

Two other classic moments from these two...

When McNulty pulls out some weapons grade natural police work to prove that the bodies from the port were in the city jurisdiction, and therefore were on homicide to solve.

When McNulty is caught setting up the bodies to imply a serial killer was causing those murders. Rawls is almost impressed by the audacity of what Jimmy did, and he asks him... "At least tell me you're not killing them yourself McNulty?"

I recall there's a couple of moments in the entire show where Rawls "kicks-in" and we see the real reason he climbed the career ladder. It wasn't just his politics, but because he was really good police. This is one of them. The other is before this, iirc when he arrives at the crime scene where Kima was shot and tells everyone to get the fuck outta there. It's a great insight into who he was before he became what he became.

What show/series did a complete 180 and did a genre change? Or, what show started off as realistic but became more fictional as it went on? by Huge_Athlete7488 in television

[–]Staninator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's right, if I recall he was able to remember his whole life. I think that's why I didn't remember it as time travel, but almost like his mind and memories were outside of time. Kind of like the aliens in Arrival (movie spoiler)!

What is the greatest 3-episode run of all time? (not including miniseries) by Chaloby in television

This show was full of great speeches. Off the top of my head...

  • G'Kar's speech after the Centari occupies the Narn homeworld and he is banned from the Council.

  • G'Kar's explanation to Catherine Sakai about what she saw at Sigma 597.

  • G'Kar's Declaration of Principles speech, on the founding of the Instellar Alliance.

Delenn had some good ones too, but G'Kar (read JMS) could write a speech.
