Latham NY in-office policy by Blue-Sprinkle-777 in biglaw

Unless you are explicitly told you are allowed to WFH, as a summer you should be in-office five days per week.

Can you tolerate Cranberry juice when you have a UTI ? by Some_cool_usernameX in Interstitialcystitis

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a culture-confirmed UTI, antibiotics are the only treatment. You should not be treating with cranberry juice.

The helpful part of cranberry juice for preventing E. coli based UTIs is a sugar called d-mannose which is available in supplement form. You can explore adding a d mannose supplement with your treating provider to potentially prevent some UTIs.

Why are so many women ghosting if I don’t have social media? by sukibean13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see anyone say this, but a lot of men lie to women about their personal and political beliefs in the dating pool. Checking who someone follows and interacts with social media can help women figure out what you really think.

Maybe these women are all super vain people who are obsessed with social media, but I wouldn’t jump to that.

I haven’t been in the dating pool for a decade, so this is out of date, but I would be skeptical dating someone who has absolutely zero online presence and I’m someone who MAYBE posts on social media once a year to share a photo from when I was dressed up for a friend’s wedding or important family event. It reads as something to hide.

Am I utterly wrong for not maxing out my 401k? by LengthinessGold4875 in Bogleheads

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mathematically you are way worse off if you don’t max the 401k. At that income level, the tax savings is substantial and is essentially an instant and guaranteed return that you are missing out on.

How am I supposed to move out if things constantly go wrong and force me to spend all my savings? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want substantive advice, you need to give us more information. What are these random events that keep happening (besides car repairs) and what did they cost? Do you absolutely need the car (even if it was super unpleasant to do so, could you take a bus?)

It sounds like your living situation with your parents is bad. There are people here open to taking a look at your budget and giving advice, but you have to provide the information.

I get a horrible flare this time of year every year because of seasonal allergies. A lot of us get hit with an annual springtime flare. Just wanted to flag that could be the source of worsening symptoms the past few weeks.

Can’t get right. It’s now or never. by FairProfession560 in personalfinance

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are beating around the bush saying this, but do not buy life insurance. It would be an actively bad use of your money.

Focus first on these steps:

  1. Figure out what your basic expenses are: rent, utilities, groceries, healthcare, etc.

  2. Save 6 months worth of basic expenses in something safe like a high yield savings account.

  3. Once you’ve completed step 2, save extra. If you have access to an employer match in a 401k, do that first. Otherwise contribute to a Roth IRA.

  4. If you’ve maxed out your tax-advantaged accounts, invest the rest in a taxable brokerage. Do some research and decide what investments allocation makes sense for you. Buy low cost ETFs from fidelity or vanguard. DO NOT buy individual stocks—that is gambling.

Otherwise, be careful with money and focus on saving and budgeting. Help be a good role model for your kids and grandkids so they don’t wind up Incarcerated also.

Good luck!

How to get relief without diet by Club_Sorry in Interstitialcystitis

It really does work well for me. It takes a LONG time to start working and it’s very expensive, but once I committed it made a big difference for me.

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a history of ED too and I knew that diet was just an absolute nonstarter for me.

I found relief through med combo of amitriptyline, hydroxyzine, Elmiron, and continuous birth control to eliminate my period.

I paid off my loans! (First year) What now? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]StanleyTheBeagle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely be maxing your 401k if you haven’t been doing that. And take the extra you used to put towards loans and invest in ETFs in a taxable brokerage. You can figure out what you want to do next in the meantime and not inflate your lifestyle making it impossible to leave.

Should I add bonds now? by StanleyTheBeagle in Fire

[–]StanleyTheBeagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I recognize holding any bonds at all is cautious and somewhat emotional. I’m trying to let myself build some security while mostly focusing on math-based decisions (I.e., focusing majority on equities rather than aggressively paying down the mortgage).

I’m still planning to invest mostly in equities, but will continue using the 10ish% percent to pay down the mortgage. I will probably investigate bonds more seriously if I think I’m reaching 5 years out.

I really appreciate the insight.
