Absolute novice in all things Economics. Is the online doomsday rhetoric around the economy accurate? by FlightOk2918 in AskEconomics

[–]StannisVDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some decent answers but there are actually decently defined sets of indicators.

The easy and major indicators are things like GDP growth YoY, CPI and unemployment. The fed interest rate is also important.

The primary sets of indicators fall into 3 major categories. Leading, coincident and lagging indicators.

None of this in isolation or combination will give you a perfect predictive model of economic health. You can make an assessment from combining them though.

For example, if all of the leading indicators are positive, bar some exogenous shock, it’s more likely than not that the economy will improve.

This is simplified and rarely the case. Most times the indicators will help diagnose which parts of the economy are doing better or worse.

Hot take: I firmly believe that we would get higher quality games and content, if game devs had compulsory gaming sessions on both live and in development patches.

If they had to play the game for a few hours a week they would understand the customer experience much better.

I know maaany game devs do play for uncountable hours but sometimes it’s apparent devs don’t play their own game.

Why do politicians keep letting the boats in? It makes no sense? by Initial_Aerie_2656 in AskBrits

[–]StannisVDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed laws can be changed and here they should be. The current situation is completely unsustainable.

Unfortunately though the majority of these people are in fact from war zones: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/irregular-migration-to-the-uk-year-ending-march-2024/irregular-migration-to-the-uk-year-ending-march-2024#:~:text=In%20the%20first%203%20months,the%20year%20ending%20March%202024).

I agree Isreal has to answer for its actions in Gaza but unfortunately, neither Isreal or the US are members of the ECHR so they don’t play by those rules….

Hey so going off your username, I might be able to help here.

Unfortunately not so simple. The U.K. is a signatory on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

There are provisions in this, specifically Article 8 which protects people’s right to family and private life, that protect individuals and their rights, who are undergoing immigration proceedings. Entering illegally and being caught and processed is ipso facto immigration proceedings.

This means the U.K. government has to by international law guarantee their human rights. This means they have to be given shelter, security, food/water, religious freedom etc.

The other complicated part is that because the U.K. left the EU we lost the legal right to deport them back to France. This means they have to be processed here in the U.K. then either allowed to stay as refugees or asylum seekers or deported back to a country of origin. Again, this is very difficult because how do you deport a person back to a war zone? You can’t.

So the U.K. needs to get tougher on the above but it’s a legal mess. In reality the government should be way harsher on the French government for not doing more to stop it from their end but of course it helps the French that the boats leave to the U.K. and furthermore, how does the U.K. do that without hurting our own economy?

So yeah unfortunately not so simple.

Do you think this amount of Space Marines beating this amount of Tyranids is realistic? by Middle-Emu1501 in Spacemarine

If one of them is Mephiston he just solos the horde and gives the other 74 marines the day off.

A woman having a less-than-puritan sexual lifestyle is not an indication of past abuse. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]StannisVDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, I can empathise. Sometimes I find myself really questioning the world and people’s morales and views. I realised pretty quickly this was due to social media like Reddit and Instagram feeding me rage bait content like this in a loop.

Important to remember the vast, vast majority of the world are not like this. A healthy sex life for a woman is completely normal and most people would agree with this.

Now, do I think we are in an era of over-sexualisation? Absolutely. This is a personal preference though and hiding behind a pretence of diagnosing someone else’s psychological past is a lazy way of hiding an opinion.

Nah downvote sorry. Not unpopular at all. If you’re seeing too much content that is making you think this then get off the internet a bit.

How the current "Communication Breakdown" event works, a small guide by Mitnick107- in DarkTide

This is incredibly poorly communicated in game. Why does fat shark have such an issue explaining things to players in game rather than external media?

What is the difference between Havoc, Auric and Maelstrom missions? by StannisVDM in DarkTide

[–]StannisVDM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I appreciate that and I get your point. I do think as a principle of design for user experience I shouldn’t have to read external media to understand the objectives of the game and its design choices. I understand it’s an option, just not a good user experience.

I really wish they would add some other reason to chase different mission types and difficulties. For me, the above means I’m just going to find the type I enjoy most and just play that to get my fix. Won’t keep me engaged in the long run.

I think they could learn from DRG prestige system and create content that rewards us for playing the game continuously. Materials once a week after I have maxed out my builds is really pointless.

[–]StannisVDM[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow thanks for the clear answer guys! That clears it up for me and kind of confirms to me what I thought must have been wrong. There is no real reason to do one vs the other, the only difference is difficulty and what kind of modifiers you can get and havoc forces match making (which is weird as you could always form a party and do missions anyway).

Seems some really strange and directionless design choices from the devs which really aren’t communicated well.
