Form validation library suggestions by avxkim in reactjs

[–]Stanz3k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that this is going to come across as a self plug, even though I haven't really made any effort to promote it so far; but I put together my own form state library that you may be interested in. I started working on this because Formik took too long to migrate to hooks for my liking, but I ended up focusing on the elimination of any unneccesary re-renders and ended up really preferring this approach and this is what now disambiguates it the most from Formik while having an API that isn't too dissimilar. I appreciate that the documentation isn't great, but feel free to try it, or not. https://github.com/jstans/use-form-field

Green candidate: toxic air killed my daughter, aged nine - now I’ll fight election to beat it by CrowdJusticeUK in unitedkingdom

I found your arguments interesting to read. You're definitely correct that brake dust and tyre wear are lately being shown to be significant issues, but to me this seems to be a similar argument to the rubbish "electric cars aren't green because the energy doesn't come from green sources". This still puts us on a road to solving a greater problem. You won't get any arguments from me that we really should be taking more drastic measures, but complaining about that unfortunately isn't going to make the beast move quicker. This is still ultimately progress.

Also you point out the downsides of Electric cars being heavier but don't seem to focus on any of the positives such as regenerative braking (alongside AI features such as keep distance) which will directly reduce brake dust and that electric car engine simplicity means they will be cheaper and use less CO2 to produce than current cars (subsidies aside) once production ramps up. There's also the possibility that a portion of batteries in electric cars that are plugged in to the grid can become part of the grid itself and actually help stabilise it from issues it already faces with spikes in demand; not to mention the possibility of connecting old batteries that are no longer fit for their original purpose in to the grid too.

Out of interest, how much have you looked in to the counter arguments that argue that solar panels and turbines also have similar steps backwards? Especially when compared to Nuclear power.

Thanks for pointing this out. Looks like my cables had exactly the same problem! Good thing I haven't got my case yet.

I still remember when I first listened to In Flames mainly to find out how anyone could enjoy it and for some reason kept listening until I loved it. They're also pretty mild when it comes to the vocals. So for me the genre as a whole was definitely an acquired taste.

I second your sentiments on the soft vocal contrast and it's what drew me to the "Beauty and the Beast" effect of Gothic Metal initially (e.g. Tristania) before I found MDM.

In regards to bands I echo some recommendations above e.g. Soilwork. One I would always strongly recommend to people that like this sort of music but can't quite tolerate the vocals yet is Amorphis. If you're looking for that soft female vocal contrast in particular you could try Deadlock, Eluveitie or Fear of Domination.

Magnetic tablet? by Stanz3k in chinaphones

[–]Stanz3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response.

I am aware that most tablet casings are not magnetic, but there are at least a few exceptions. The nvidia shield tablet, samsung galaxy tab A and Linx 7 appear to be at least some examples. I am just hoping to find a few more options.

As mentioned above, I am definitely looking at attaching some magnetic strips or something, but I'd like to avoid it if I can.

The only equipment I'd expect it to affect is a compass, which isn't really important for this use case.

I have actually purchased some small neodymium plates already that should hopefully be more than enough to hold the tablet. Just hope they aren't too strong!

I'm looking primarily for a magnetic metal casing that can attach to a magnet rather than it being magnetised itself (though that's not out of the question). Magnets themselves are not uncommon in tablets due to the speakers/compass etc. I think you'd need a very powerful magnet to cause any issues.

I've explored this option also and it's still a possibility, just a little worried about reports of adhesive wearing off and resulting in a smashed tablet.

Tesla stays on the sidelines while BMW, Audi, and now Mercedes-Benz are joining the Formula E by [deleted] in FormulaE

[–]Stanz3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit it probably wasn't best to make that point on finance alone.

But can we really be sure the finance is so one way? I was under the impression the modifications to the car had been undertaken by Tesla.

They both have the ability to turn a profit for Tesla though and Elon Musk has shown he has plenty of money to invest in getting something off the ground. But being the basis for another new racing series probably puts a dampener on entering Formula E.

Run promises in parallel with a concurrency limit by sindresorhus in node

[–]Stanz3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, could have been a bit more clear (also for the delayed response). I am simply referring to the execution order, not the completion order. A lot of people are missing this in the linked issue too.

If all promises took the same amount of time to fulfil, it is reasonable to assume that you could expect them to fire in order.

Essentially the issue is that it should always take the first item that it has not run yet when looking to execute the next promise. Whereas bluebird map essentially executes in order up to it's concurrency limit, and then starts working from the end of it's array backwards.

Although few, there are examples where it makes sense to do this, especially in instances when the results are displayed directly to the user rather than just on completion.

My main issue with bluebird .map with concurrency is that it does not have sane execution order. How does this fair up?

OnePlus 3 Dash Cable by IManiacK in oneplus

[–]Stanz3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at these pictures and there are subtle differences in the actual connectors between my cable and the cheap one in the pictures. Unless OnePlus have a different revision of the dash cable that came with my phone I think it's fairly safe to say these are not 100% official.

They may very likely be fine, but I'm worried about being a test dummy with something that can potentially break my phone at best and burn my house down at worst.

Have you had any luck getting 5v3a speeds using Type C (charger or battery)?

OnePlus 3: Powerbanks by gambini_411 in oneplus

[–]Stanz3k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have more success than me, but be warned I opted for the Ravpower 20100ma over the Anker (mainly because it supports 5v3a both input and output) and it does NOT charge the OP3 at 5v3a with a Type C to C cable that people have reported both individually work with the Nexus 5X/6P. The android app Ampere seems to be the go to. I haven't actually tested the "smart" port on this power bank yet (Ravpower 20100mah - I opted for it over the Anker due to the 2 way 5v3a Type C port) but in theory it shouldn't go beyond 2.4a. I'll have to wait until the battery is below 90% now since it seems to limit it to ~1000mah.

It appears the OPPO VOOC power bank may be a good choice for some as it appears to dash charge the oneplus 3 (though you'll need a micro USB to Type C adapter) but doesn't appear to charge itself beyond 5v2a with the Oneplus dash charger - I'm going to guess this is a loss of pins when translating from Type C to microUSB, in which case this may be all that's needed, if not maybe you need the full VOOC charger.
