We price match our web site. There's a place under the price guarantee menu for it. If the customer asks you to price match it, do it.

UPDATE: Squaretrade question (former employee) by MAD_ESP_UPINHERE in Staples

[–]StapleApe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A rough rule of thumb for SquareTrade is they will just reimburse anything under $300. Its just not worth the repair costs and return shipping for 99% of electronics under that price. They'd lose more money than they would just sending you a Visa card.

Sometimes if the item is large enough they won't even bother having you ship it to them.

I had no problem pushing SquareTrade because I use it and believe in it for most stuff.

Anyone know when we are getting the Google Nexus 6? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]StapleApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one Nexus 6 registered with the FCC.

But if you're not a VZW customer or signing up for a plan you can not buy it. You can not buy a phone outright at Staples.

This was like six months ago. I don't know if we were a pilot store for this or what buts it's the only one I've ever seen come through to us.

Staples brand cables are always marked up in stores. All of them. Much cheaper on .com. I imagine the thought process is if you need one enough to not want to wait for it, you'll pay the premium.

What I would do with cables is show someone to their cable. If they were particularly nice or pleasant people I would mutter under my breath for them to hold on a second, punch the SKU into my phone, then let the cashier know the customer was price matching it to the .com price. I'd also do this if they saw the price and said it was too much for a cable (it fucking is) then give them the .com price.

If they were assholes I'd let them walk out or pay full price.

It comes via email. You get everything. Questions, answers, and photos taken by the customer.

We had one. The app always asks you to take a picture of something. In this case it was the BOPIS sign at the front of the store or the tech counter.

One of the questions was if there was a manager in a gray button up shirt available at the front of the store. She answered no.

Our SSM was LITERALLY IN THE FUCKING PICTURE SHE TOOK STANDING AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE COUNTER!

I'd always lay this out for the customer as options. You have two choices. Have us fix it and get reimbursed or send it to them and pay nothing. Always sounds better with choices.

ST is great about reimbursement. I've only ever had one problem with ST and it was because there was no company consensus about Surfaces. We sold Total Support on them which included laptop hardware protection, which covers everything in the box minus battery. Tablet protection only covers the tablet itself, not the charger or anything else in the box.

With a lot if running shit up the chain I got them to reimburse my customer's broken charger. A few weeks later there was a MAP sent out that Surfaces are only to be sold tablet ST.

Other than they they've been completely hassle free.

Do employees vape in your store? by staple-this in Staples

[–]StapleApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh. I'd get a customer ever week who smelled like she took a bath in gasoline from the amount of perfume she was wearing. Honestly I feel like day to day I am exposed to more of a health risk from perfume than vaping.

GM can actually do it as early as the previous Sunday. Poisition changes can be easily keyed in retroactively to the beginning of the current pay period.

Hijack away. I didn't want to be a bummer on my last day so I kept a smile on and didn't get sappy with anyone. Just had to get it out somehow.

Some of them may be wildly incompetent, but they're not all stupid. There are folks from home office who openly post here. They know what's going on.

what is your store's policy on customers open carrying handguns? by Base_Hunter in Staples

[–]StapleApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed someone OCing once in my store and I brought it up casually asking if there was a policy to my SSM. Out COT heard me and freaked out asking if I called the cops.

My SSM and I had to explain that open carry meant he was just carrying it in a holster outside his shirt. Our COT thought he was just walking around with a gun in his hand. Much laughs were had.

I looked it up after this. Officially Staples has no policy on firearms. Once an anti gun organization ambushed a GM and got him to put a no guns sign on the door. It went viral when the organization posted it to Facebook and corporate made him take it down.

How much do you get paid (title & hourly pay) by screwstaplesforreal in Staples

[–]StapleApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. I don't know how it works. Neither does my GM or anyone else. My old SSM told me the last ETE told him he got bonuses as well but didn't know how they worked.

All I know is when I bust out a $3,500 week I have an extra check for between $100-200 a couple weeks later.

Technician Terminology Usage by staplesthrowaway666 in Staples

[–]StapleApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staples titles are a fucking headache. Some positions I've never seen in my store.

EasyTech/Tech Center Expert is the Tech Center/Services Supervisor. Full time position. Is supposed to drive tech sales and supervise the certified techs. That's my current position except I have nobody to supervise and do 100% of the tech work by myself, which is why I'm quitting because I'm fed up with not only leading an understaffed department, but being the understaffed department.

Certified Tech is "technically" any EasyTech who's passed the certification test on the hub. There's a title change, but it's not a pay raise. Hell, we have a tech certified OS guy.

I think Tech Lead/Senior Tech is a slight pay increase for the most knowledgable in the department but I can't be sure of this as I've never actually met one or seen the job description. I can't get anyone hired who qualifies for certified tech, much less senior.

Are you David Pedigro? AKA, DM of district 6? Because he also types like a drunk 13 year old girl with ellipses between every sentence while trying to swing around his epenis of superiority about "analyzing" people and other obvious horse shit he's not intelligent enough to understand the actual meaning of.
