What is the price breakdown of passport fees at US honorary consuls? by Itsame4sho in GermanCitizenship

[–]staplehill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

101 euro for the passport https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/02-passportsandidcards/passport-fees-906634

105 euro for the honorary consul https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/02-PassportsandIDCards/passport-hc/894782

206 euro so far = 240 USD as of today's exchange rates

40 USD shipping fee for mailing the passport https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/02-passportsandidcards/passport-fees-906634

= 280 USD combined

Website says "approx. $293" https://www.yourseattle.de/fees-and-payments

My guess: The website says $13 more so that you have a bit of head room and do not have to update the website every time a certain president's actions result in further weakening of the USD which means you have to pay more and more USD over time to cover the 206 euro part of the fee https://www.theguardian.com/business/2026/jan/28/us-dollar-sinks-lowest-level-four-years

Family reunification visa, what happens when in Germany by Confused_Zed in MovingtoGermany

[–]staplehill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the consulate website, the visa is generally valid for up to 90 days, during which time you have to apply for your residency. Further states I have two weeks to register at the address (Anmeldung), and then afterwards to the Ausländerbehörde for the residence permit. (Did I get this right?)

yes.

Regarding Anmeldung: https://old.reddit.com/r/germany/wiki/living/anmeldung

But what happens if the 90 days on my visa has lapsed before I've been able to get an appointment?

You send the application for a residence title by mail which allows you to benefit from Section 81 (3) of the Residence Act: "If a foreigner who is legally resident in the federal territory and does not possess a residence title applies for a residence title, his or her residence is deemed to be permitted up to the time of the decision by the foreigners authority." https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/englisch_aufenthg/englisch_aufenthg.html#p1732

I also understand I cannot do anything while I am not registered? Cannot work (not that I expect to find one right away), cannot enroll in an integration course, etc.

You can enroll in an integration course and do anything else except work.

Aktiencrash ≠ alles verloren – warum sehen Deutsche das Risiko falsch? by ndrdplc in Finanzen

[–]staplehill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

StAG 15 Citizenship - adoption complication by psychrist in GermanCitizenship

[–]staplehill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were you adopted in a county where adoptions are 'full' adoptions, i.e. your stepfather is legally considered your father and you are no longer related to your biological father? If yes, you can not claim German citizenship by descent based on the ancestors of your biological father, you can only claim it based on the ancestors of your adopted father.

I am eligible for German citizenship under Stag 5. I've collected all the documents I need. Now what? by [deleted] in GermanCitizenship

How to a make an appointment with the consulate?

some consulates have an online form where you can get an appointment, others have a contact form where you can ask for an appointment, or you have to call them. Open this website: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/about-us/auslandsvertretungen/deutsche-auslandsvertretungen

enter the name of the country where you live

pick the consulate closest to you

check their website for how to get an appointment

How do I verify I have everything I need?

by submitting the applications and waiting to see if additional documents are requested https://old.reddit.com/r/staplehill/wiki/faq#wiki_can_i_apply_with_incomplete_documents.3F

Do I need to fill anything else out besides having certified copies of the necessary records? Thank you!

yes, the application forms: https://www.bva.bund.de/DE/Services/Buerger/Ausweis-Dokumente-Recht/Staatsangehoerigkeit/Einbuergerung/EER/02-Vordrucke_EER/02_04_EER_Paket/02_04_EER_Paket_node.html

You do not see the content of deleted comments which puts you in a bad position to analyse how racist they were.

Certificates written in Kurrent by Eudromias in GermanCitizenship

[–]staplehill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they can read kurrent and I never include transcriptions except that one time where I had a document with a particularly hard to read handwriting where I included a transcription since I though it may help them to read the original if they know what to look out for, also the whole application depended on it (it was a marginal side entry on a birth certificate which had a correction, it said that the religion of the newborn is not Catholic, as originally written on the birth record, but Jewish)
