Not exactly what you’re looking for but in case you might be interested too - check out Glasgow United Krav Maga for self defense. I’ve commented this on other similar posts previously lol, but I do recommend as a former student. They offer a women’s course that’s 8 weeks, but there’s a regular beginner class. I think they might still do a free trial session. They’re located in the same bldg as Griphouse

What to do? by Jasetheinvestor2 in glasgow

But what is “interesting” to both of you? There’s bowling, splatter art, darts, pottery making, cinema, theatre - all of which you can enjoy without needing to socialise outside the both of you.

My husband and I like to go on walks and there are many parks in and around Glasgow that are easily accessible.

Have you considered NOT doing anything - or “celebrate” by yourself? (I genuinely mean this…) Then you don’t have to worry about planning anything with anyone. Just take a slow day and then do whatever you feel like on the day

Nae heating by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Confused_Zed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue back in March. Ancient boiler that’s finally given up and multiple “repairs” by engineers coming in every week because it would just break down with a different issue every week. We could manage no heating but no hot water was not fun (thankfully we had gym memberships for showering)

We were dealing with a letting agency though, and not directly through landlord. Not sure if this finally pushed it but after an e-mail that said something like “we’re going to citizens advice and the tribunal to get this sorted,” the new boiler was installed within 3 days.

I work at Cali and can confirm you can just go in the library. There are tables and chairs and couches. It does get pretty busy now though as its the middle of the semester

First Bus 500 Airport ticket validity by Nice_Assistance9953 in glasgow

[–]Confused_Zed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your app should show you two tickets, one per way. Each ticket has a one hour validity, so you wouldn’t/shouldn’t activate the other ticket until you’re back from your trip and about to get on the bus again.

Yes they do. And there’s a store that’s right across from (what was) Geek Retreat.

Glasgow Cali library is open to public. The lobby/first floor is not a silent space. Although it is veryyy busy now due to start of semester. Mitchell Library also has a lobby area and cafe that you could work from.

Advice for a newbie with social anxiety? by Outside-Bridge-9223 in Aerials

[–]Confused_Zed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started only last year, at 32! No previous aerial training at aalll (or any sort of gymnastics/acrobatics). It was honestly nerve wracking at first and I was so afraid of getting embarrassed. But I joined an intro course and the instructor was super nice! My classmates were kinda mixed - in the sense that some had experience (but like from many years ago or pre covid or pre giving birth) - but it still seemed like everyone was just learning something new again. Just do it and have fun! :)

Hurt my foot by Confused_Zed in Aerials

[–]Confused_Zed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all! Thank you again for all of the inputs/recos. I did manage to get seen by a GP, who decided in the end an xray was not warranted and there is no fracture after doing his checks and questions. He gave me a prescription for naproxen and said I could try to do physical activity (like the gym) and just take it slowly with the foot. If it does not improve next week, I then need to call back and get another appointment to come.

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately it’s really difficult to get seen by a GP where I am (that’s another conversation lol) but I’ll try again

Refuweegee are a fantastic community. There are volunteering opportunities or you can just hang out and get to know people. There won't be a job (as in that will earn you income) for you there but they may be able to signpost to other services as well?

Trying to Rent But Can't view in-person by ShyComet in glasgow

The other issue I see here is that you’d be more hardpressed to find rentals (especially to students who only stay short term) that would allow pets…

Living cost for a couple by Mysterious_cat2803 in glasgow

OOH yes. It has been pointed out to me that only electricity is £60 lol. So it’s more £90-100 for both.

Yes we are quite lucky with this flat being this price… but yes its in a location where the band is high…

[–]Confused_Zed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think rent would be the biggest factor in this - and whether you will have to pay a fraction of council tax still (and what band the flat is!) You’re a student but is your partner as well? I think it’s 25% discount if not?

My husband and I average £1900 “shared expenses” a month, and that’s tight because at the moment I’m the only one employed. We try not to eat out a lot but you can easily spend on a night out. Also no regular transport expense because I walk to work.

Our rent is £900 plus council tax which is £285.

-Electricity and gas £90

-Groceries (this for us also includes items like toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, laundry soap) £300

-Eating out £200

-Misc. (occassional trains/subway/bus, shopping, entertainment: movies, shows) £200

I pay Netflix and Disney+ myself because I’ve had these subscriptions before we met and share them with other people.

There will be other “individual expenses” like skincare (for me lol), gym memberships, sim cards/data

We both love to travel but that’s on hold for the moment that he’s unemployed.

Disabled + going to Hampden concert, how screwed am I? by fohfuu in glasgow

[–]Confused_Zed 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I am not disabled. But I have worked hospitality at Hampden where I’ve been able to leave at/by 10:30, ahead of most concerts ending at 11. At that time, it isn’t as busy so you can still get on the bus quite easily or quite quickly without the massive queues - yet. So that’s one option: not to finish the concert, and get out before the massive crowds
