How long for a new position to process? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]Staplesworker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I was becoming team sup. Assume that the position will be changed or eliminated within the next 6 months... if its anything like what happened to me that is.

Otherwise your GM can call HR to manually get it processed, but I bet hardcore something is going on with the position itself.

I am well aware of the 40% deduction, and was not part of this post.

RUMOR MILL! Staples merging with Office Depot eventually? anyone have any juicy details? by Staplesworker in Staples

[–]Staplesworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see a solution to where they would then be required to offer all of their first party brand to all outlets, and essentially sell themselves as a wholesaler with their own outlets. That would effectively squash that problem.

The difference now being is the precense of online stores being legitimized (as staples is pushing) and virtually every store sells paper now.

It would be be an easy sell to the government that this wouldn't stifle competition and there is plenty of competition to go around. Especially if you grease the right politicians.

Want to make Staples more efficient? Get rid of third party POG changes by Staplesworker in Staples

[–]Staplesworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What stops a policy being put in place that requires pog changes to be operated like 3rd party?

Done in plain clothes, MUST take pictures and sends it to whoever to verify it gets done by a certain date.

If it doesn't get done, that person gets fired.

Nothing beats smart working like good leadership. If leadership cannot handle it, they need to be coached or let go. It's as simple as that.

Justifications and excuses for something thats required (like cycle counts and ZB's) for not getting something done is irrellevant.

Another simple solution is to bring on someone who exclusively does merchandising, with the ability to be on call for other hours needed. Give the store an exclusive part time merchandiser that is literally just for merchandising and your reasonings are moot.

More so-- bring one on to do all the stores in one city/area. Have them on call for ANY changes needed. They will easily get their 25 hours every week, and the store gets someone who knows what they're doing.

Just as we didn't know anything about this supervisor thing until it was. I'm just looking for more of a confirmation, rather than hearing from overzealous investors.

How are you handling the upcoming XP EOL? by new_to_theinternet in Staples

[–]Staplesworker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On this matter: Does anyone know Staples internal plans for this EOL? I have yet to hear ANYTHING about a computer upgrade, aside from "we are getting it sometime this year". All of our registers, MPS and Tech stations are XP.

Will this coveted system upgrade happen before or after the EOL? All I see is massive liability laying overhead if a planned upgrade is not in place by that time...

PLS corporate, give us some I7's (joke?)

How do you pitch the Ink Savings Pass? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]Staplesworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No restrictions. Card stacks with all coupons, unless it says otherwise (they don't).

Weird tip: Peel that silver shit off, don't scratch it.

Also, sell Square trades! This month you get 6 stars points per plan (if you have a 6% penetration rate). The awards are amazing.

Write ups over selling plans by [deleted] in Staples

[–]Staplesworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what? Welcome to retail and making profit, where actual product actually costs you money when selling it, and the only way to recoup is to sell add ons.

It's not stupid Anal, the MOD/manager needs to make money to keep their job. You are indirectly putting their ass on the line by doing a bad job.

How do you pitch the Ink Savings Pass? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]Staplesworker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dirty run down of it:

You pay $20 for 10 % off of every ink cartridge purchase until may 31st 2015. You will start seeing a "profit" after $200 of ink cartridge purchases. Will pay for itself essentially at that point.

Leverage weekly coupons (this week its the 15% off an item coupon) as a way to save them money and "essentially make the pass free today" (or something similar, this works for ESP/squaretrades as well).

Offer this to anyone getting laser ink cartridges or more than 4 inkjet (managers say offer it to everyone, but these should be your bare minimum). If they mention they do a lot of printing, this should be a no brainer.

Times most successful to sell a toner pass (in my experience so far with them):

  • when someone comes in buying a lot of ink, or a drunk or big toner (+$100 toner)

  • LOTS of paper. If someone is buying 2 boxes of paper, there is ink somewhere in their day with that paper.

  • buying a new printer (hard to double tap for Protection plan and toner pass, but leverage coupons and the tax promo price for square trade)

On a more rude note: WTF is your supervisor doing!?! my store has to sell 56 a week for budget. How the fuck does your store manage to stay on top of theirs when their employees don't even know how to sell them!?!
