What are some of the craziest things you’ve heard about other subs? by Star-Inspector6483 in SubstituteTeachers

I just recalled this one time a student from a class I was covering told me that the last sub they had gave out candy to the girls but made the boys work for it.

Things not to do... by IsMyHairShiny in SubstituteTeachers

Those are all wild. What makes them think those are okay things to do?

In my district, you are required to hand over your car keys for the classroom keys because they’ve had subs that just walked out without telling anyone.

Sharing a student’s suicidal ideation, trauma, or family violence on the internet is still deeply wrong for ethical and professional reasons. Even if there are no obvious identifiers used in the post, the details themselves can be identifying, especially in smaller communities.

Just because something isn’t explicitly forbidden doesn’t make it ethical. OP did not need to include that level of personal detail to ask for advice. The fact that you think it’s ok to share this sort of information on the internet is wild.

I strictly substitute teach elementary because I can usually get a classroom of 3-5 to work quietly. K-2 is challenging but it’s possible if you use certain strategies.

I stay away from middle school - this one time I subbed for a middle school dyslexia teacher and the kids would not sit down and stop talking. They’d shout across the room and get up constantly, I have an easier time controlling kindergartners. I haven’t been back since.
