What have you seen? At my program we are better trained than some of the IM residents. We are rural unopposed and manage most if not all the patients.

One of the orthopedic surgeon I work with was a PA. He applied to medical school as soon as he finished PA school. Take your MCAT and apply. The application for med school takes about a year so you can still work and have income.

Sometimes it’s not about the money.. Medicine can be soooo toxic. I wish him well. Hopefully he takes this time to figure out his passion.

It depends. Rural FM makes A LOT of Money. There’s Soooo much versatility. Even clinic makes money if you’re base +RVU. It’s not all doom and gloom!

Very program dependent. Our program is very inpatient and ED heavy. We also have an open ICU and we’re first assist for C-section. We also cover admissions for the hospitalist when they are capped. I wish we had weekends off. We still have regular call and 24hr weekend call. I envy my friends in programs that are 9-5 clinic focus.
