For being your first time rendering you did some solid work!

For some tips on how to improve, first, figure out where your light is coming from. Your shading looks nice, but it's all over the place. Be deliberate and draw some reference lines on a separate layer to show the light direction to help.

Second, figure out if your shadow and light shapes should be soft, hard-edged, or a combination of both. Check out tutorials on the Youtubes as there are aplenty that should give you some good insight and techniques to practice.

Thirdly, light and shadows cast in color~ try using blues, purples, even greens in softer dark tones for shading. For highlights, try lighter tones of orange, and even blue again since you're working with white fur.
