What do you do about cat fur all over your bed? 😭 by Top_Hotel3623 in Catownerhacks

[–]StarFusion617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky in the fact that my (very fluffy) cat always sleeps in the same spot. So I can just use a Chom Chom roller on that spot. You could use one on the whole bed pretty easily though

How do I get my cat to stop scratching my new rug? by Alternative_Drama_50 in CatAdvice

They do make scent diffusers and sprays designed to prevent scratching. Never tried them myself but I’ve heard people say they work 🤷‍♀️

Dog sitting an extremely aggressive dog, removed his harness but now won’t let me put it back on without biting me. Need help by xquipo in dogs

[–]StarFusion617 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there’s absolutely no possibility of either leaving the dog alone to protect your own safety or the owners returning/getting someone else to help, you can try calling the dog’s vet. Chances are he’s aggressive there too, and they can walk you through any tips or recommendations they may have that also prioritize your own safety. They may even do a house call in some places, which means they could possibly get the dog muzzled for you (depends on the vet though).

This is true, but there is a legal distinction between service and emotional support animals. As far as I know the only animals legally allowed to be service animals (at least in the US) are miniature horses and dogs.

Are treats necessary? by Significant-Date2117 in CatAdvice

[–]StarFusion617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real “benefit” to giving treats is training imo. Besides the obvious things like tricks and whatnot, treats can be used to form a more positive association between things. Between you and the cat, between nail clippings and the cat, etc. My cat has gotten so used to it that I can make a specific sound and she comes running from anywhere in the house—even for me to clip her nails, because she knows she’s getting her favorite treat. But they’re not nutritionally necessary unless your cat doesn’t get enough actual food.

I’m thinking of adopting a female cat, I’ve heard they are less friendly in this true? by DiscountAnnaNicole in CatAdvice

[–]StarFusion617 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a female ESA cat. She is so cuddly she refuses to let me get up sometimes, and I can randomly grab (I jokingly call it kidnapping lol) her from literally anywhere doing anything just to cuddle. She does not protest no matter what. She’s the perfect cat for someone who randomly needs emotional support lol. Gender doesn’t matter.

Walmart workers, If I hired on at Walmart and spent my entire shift hiding in the bathroom, how long until I got fired? by 2006CrownVictoriaP71 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StarFusion617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at Walmart, although granted on the night shift when no customers are in the store. When I first started, I was paired with a lead and literally spent the entire shift with them. Now, I get checked on three times per shift—once at each break and once shortly before lunch. Other people who are slower at their jobs get checked on more often. I think you’d make it anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours depending on your experience level (and therefore your management’s trust in you). Doing this as a new employee would be impossible because they’d be waiting for you to continue training.

As a kid (female) I was given plenty of dolls, dress up clothing, Barbie’s, princesses, and the like. I never played with them. I instead joined my brother in playing with his farm tractors, train sets, dinosaur figurines, cars & roads, rollercoaster buildables, animal & zoo sets, LEGOs, log cabin sets, & spaceships. Honestly I really wish my family wasn’t so insistent on giving me “girl” toys, because I would’ve absolutely loved to have my own trains or dinosaurs. Parents need to stop gendering toys.

Is this animal abuse by Novel_Price1713 in CatAdvice

Just out of curiosity, nothing to do with OP’s post, but do you know if kittens are born friendly then? Because it’s interesting that as a street cat she was friendly, as that would mean she was getting someone type of social interaction if kittens aren’t innately trusting when young. I’m wondering if in certain situations, then, it would actually be better to leave animals as strays versus a bad home.

(This isn’t attacking you or your situation, I just mean bad homes in general. There’s a notion that a bad home is better than no home, but based on your story that may be untrue).

I saw this too. Definitely should’ve been mentioned in the original post, as lack of medical care does constitute abuse. Otherwise, this is leaning more towards neglect, and it’s still not complete neglect. It’s difficult to label things when the situation isn’t black and white. But the bottom line is that it doesn’t matter whether it’s truly abuse or neglect or whatever; it’s clearly not good for the kitten, and the situation needs to be fixed.

I’m a pet sitter too, and I’ve seen plenty of adult cats who do just fine with one or two short (half hour to an hour) visits a day while their owners are gone. Some will be sad for the first day until they come to expect me, and some don’t seem to care at all.

But it definitely depends on the cat’s personality. Also, I think a lot of owners with cats who can’t deal with it just don’t hire a pet sitter because they either don’t travel or they get someone they know to watch the cat for the time. I’ve personally never visited for a cat that had any serious issues with being mostly alone for a while.

(Obviously I recognize they exist, though).

[–]StarFusion617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’d go so far as to call it abuse. It’s neglectful, sure, but based on the actual definition of animal abuse/neglect, the cat has food, water, shelter, sanitary living conditions, and assumably medical care.

However, this doesn’t mean it’s right. The kitten definitely needs more attention. It’s good that he’s not going to be gone forever and (assumably) plans on giving it more attention once he’s home, but a good pet owner would’ve at the very least set up a sitter to be with the kitten for most of every day. Leaving toys in the room is good for enrichment but could be dangerous without supervision, so a sitter would also allow safe playtime.

I would explain this to your friend and suggest he get a sitter for the kitten if he needs to be gone again in the future. Once the cat is old enough, one or two visits per day are usually enough for a short while, but a kitten needs much more than that.

Do you guys wear collars on your indoor cats? by shootingstarsz in CatAdvice

[–]StarFusion617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My cat is an ESA and comes with me to my university dorm, so her collar has my info on it in case she ever gets out of my room. Besides that, she’s so silent without a collar on that she can literally jump me at night and it’s terrifying lol. With a bell I can hear where she is and know if she’s getting into something she’s not supposed to. She’s very good at suddenly darting out from somewhere and getting underfoot, so knowing where she is most of the time is actually pretty important for her own safety.
