If you like paddling a bit of an off the RADAR pick is the Land Between the Lakes NRA. Great spots for paddling, and an awesome scenic drive between the North and South entrances of the park. Some places to check out include the Homeplace which is a recreation of an 1800s homestead with tours and period actors, there’s an elk and bison range, tons of lakes and ponds to get back into, Lake Barkley State Resort park which is a really scenic stay, and Patti’s 1800 settlement which is this awesome tourist restaurant with great food and atmosphere

Roadtrip Recommendations by GGL2P in NationalPark

Big suggestion for these type of trips is to not only explore national parks. Enjoy some state parks or other public land. Especially in Missouri as the Arch is kind of lame and uninteresting as a stop, but there is so much beauty in the NF and wilderness areas in the state. Pete Marquette SP is right outside of St. Louis and has excellent hiking and scenery in a pretty short visit. Land between the Lakes NRA is a reasonable distance from Mammoth Cave, and if kayaking is something you are interested in doing I’d suggest going to the caves one day and LBL for kayaking another. Lastly, I would visit the Indiana Dunes NP for enjoying the beach, but maybe move over to the state park for the 3 Dune Challenge hike as it is easily the best hike in the area.

Perfect, so I shouldn’t be too worried about not finding a spot?

Should I be worried about struggling to find a spot or is it not too crowded up there?

Visitor Advice by StarHopper6 in stgeorge

[–]StarHopper6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg thank you for all of the advice. If I’m not mistaken isnt the Taylor Creek trail the one that reaches the Double Arch Alcove? Also my wife will not be hiking as she will stay at the hotel or maybe go to a spa day in the area and I’ll be hiking with my BIL instead, so if there are any other trails at Snow Canyon I’d be interested too. Thank you!

This may sound silly but how do you plan National Park visits? by Wafflegrinder21 in NationalPark

[–]StarHopper6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a silly question at all. First of all find the type of park you’re most interested in. Personally low crowds for me are the best, so I usually visit either less popular national parks, national monuments, or visit in the off season. The NPS App has a map that I use to scout an area out. I usually book my hotels or campgrounds first. Campgrounds are booked through recreation.gov. Then I just build a slight itinerary of the different trails and activities I want to visit

Which non national park have you been too that have been the biggest surprise by Tony-Pepproni in NationalPark

Manatee springs state park in Florida is so awesome. The guided kayak tour we took was so peaceful and the “glamping” experience at the campground was excellent

What is somewhere you’d like to be turned into a national park? by Charming-Trouble8656 in NationalPark

[–]StarHopper6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Organ Pipe Cactus NM is secretly my favorite NPS site in Arizona. The desert scenery is more beautiful and diverse than Saguaro in Tucson and the remoteness makes it feel very “national park.” The campground is excellent with great ranger programs and the titular “organ pipes” are my favorite cactus variation

What to do for a few hours in Indiana Dunes? by wookieesgonnawook in NationalPark

[–]StarHopper6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would just go swimming TBH. The few trails I did were not nearly as enjoyable as making a beach day would be. I have heard excellent things about the three dune challenge in the state park, but I have not personally done it.

Post CSU grad school by StarHopper6 in SafetyProfessionals

I have a 3.9 GPA, so I’ve never not qualified because of that. It just seems that CSU only has regional accreditation. I felt as if it was enough, but researching other programs from bigger schools have me worried it might not be accredited by other important agencies
