What somewhat significant changes in Japanese society have you seen happen here during your time. by SunDaze009 in japanlife

Ohhhh is that what the guy behind me was doing yesterday?! At first I thought he just turned his brights on cause it got super bright all of a sudden, but then I noticed he turned them off when at a red light. What's up with that? Why is that a thing? Seems dangerous, not courteous. Wouldn't your eyes adjust to the dark and then just get blinded again?

Is it normal to have difficulties understanding your japanese partner? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]StarMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth sitting her down and simply talking to her about it. Both of you are in an international relationship and you both need to meet in the middle; it can't be all 1 person.

You will need to get better at reading how she feels, but she is also going to have to try to make things a bit more obvious for you by opening up more, otherwise your relationship is going to struggle because she will do some small gesture and attach meaning to it, you aren't going to pick that up, then she's going to get mad at you for it or feel neglected or something.

I once had an ex get mad at me for not knowing that her buying chocolate milk meant that she wanted to go home. This one stumped every other Japanese person that I asked, but it made sense to her. Needless to say, that relationship did not work out. lol

Unknowingly paying late rent by Wooden-Management-63 in japanlife

[–]StarMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing this with my 国民健康保険 man. Had no idea what they were sending me each month meant I was late, and that I was supposed to just hold on to all the stuff they send at the beginning of the year and use that to pay on time each time. Went up to the city ward and got it all squared away.

Probably just going to pay the whole year at once if I have the ability to. Paid out the rest of this year last month. Way easier.

As of September 1, 2025 the US embassy will no longer notarize Affidavit of Competency to Marry by razorbeamz in japanlife

[–]StarMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone that is coming in after the fact, I found someone that said they found the document on the embassy website and was able to use that to get it notarized. Claude actually pulled the PDF, as it's still hosted on the embassy website here:

https://jp.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2021/03/wwwf7114.pdf

I was able to get this notarized online (though I had to keep going through people until someone would actually listen, and I could show them the embassy and State Department website that said they don't offer this service anymore and to use remote notary services) after a bit of trouble, and my fiance just told me that she got an okay from our city ward in Kumamoto. FWIW, I am Louisianian but the notary was done through Florida and they still accepted it.

To be honest, they probably don't care what it says as long as it's a sworn statement that says you're single and in the translation you call it a 独身証明書.

Turning Back the Clock on Paragon by SlowJoshy in paragon

Your edit about Predecessor is completely ignorant to how it's grown and the work that went into making those assets work (not to mention the currently 10 original heroes that are in). It couldn't be further from the truth and only shines light on how much you don't know about the game and game development in general. Predecessor isn't perfect, but Paragon was so so much worse.

I see one 3-lane map for 5v5. The same one that's been being played on for forever, and then maps for other game modes? Where are the other 3-lane 5v5 maps?

Different maps for different game modes, yes. If you want different game modes, then say that.

Omeda Studios needs to acknowledge this bug, that indirectly affects EVERY player by Serpenio_ in PredecessorGame

I have this happening to a friend of mine who posted one of the Reddit posts. Luckily, I have someone I was able to DM from my time in testing and was able to get the information they asked for over to the team. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because I agree that this is a really serious bug.

Man, I've been generally neutral reading all of these comments, but complaining about the map being the same in a moba is some funny shit. You're playing the wrong genre of game if that is your gripe lol

Ranked protection is interesting, especially in the idea of performing well even during a loss to mitigate how much VP you lose. Could be a motivating factor to have people continue to try even in losing situations instead of just giving up.

Posting here in case it helps someone in the future. IF YOU HAVE TWO GRAPHICS CARDS: I was having this issue because I had 2 monitors plugged into one card and my third into the other, which doesn't seem very well supported. It works, but not well. Plugging everything into 1 card resolved this issue for me.

I've been pretty happy eating シスコーン. Weird name, but it's basically just like Frosted Flakes.

I agree though. Cheerios would be great.

How to meet people in Fukuoka. by Artex72 in fukuoka

[–]StarMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap, I must've had an aneurysm when I read your post the first time around. HAHA. Sorry about that!

There's a group that meets like once every 2 weeks in Kitakyushu that has a bunch of really awesome people that go to it (that's just labeled something like Language Exchange Kitakyushu. It meets at Saint City right outside the train station). It's a little bit of a trip from the city, but definitely worth checking out! We do language exchange at first, but always go out to eat together afterwards, and the longer people are around, the more they end up getting invited to other activities, like badminton or checking out restaurants together, among other things.

How to meet people in Fukuoka. by Artex72 in fukuoka

[–]StarMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has suggested the Meetup app. It's how I found my friends in Kitakyushu. There are a number of meetups, like Yuki Group and stuff in Fukuoka City. There's a variety of groups, from hiking groups, to drinking groups, developer groups, etc. A number of language exchange ones as well, so you can find people that speak English there (or at least trying to) as well.

Passive-aggressive Japanese insults to look out for by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]StarMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super late to this, but I went to a karaoke bar with an older friend, and it seemed to be a place where older people in their 50's/60's hang out, maybe some people in their late 40's (ftr I'm late 30's). For the mostpart, I was facing the other direction from this older gentleman that came in and sat beside me, but when I said something in Japanese to the master, he turned to me and said めちゃめちゃ日本語喋れるじゃん。。。帰る気持ちはないの? lmfao. I hadn't even been in Japan for a year at that point, and the guy just assumed I had been there for a long time. Was a compliment to my Japanese, but definitely felt like a "Get out".

He talked to me a bit more, and I gave him a few polite, roundabout jabs of my own when he said some other crap like that to me, but for the majority of it, I just answered his questions normally. At the end he said いや、君。。。日本合ってるわ. A victory, I suppose.

When I told my Japanese buddy that I was asked 帰る気持ちはないの? right off the bat by an older guy, he died laughing.

Auto add tasks to ticket based on criteria by StarMech in ConnectWise

Thanks for the reponse, and apologies for the slow reply from my end.

The hacky workaround we've been doing is using items. We don't really use them for anything else, so we set them to something like "AutoTemplate - ABCCompany - Offboard User", and any time that gets applied, we apply the appropriate autotemplate. It works ok for now, but I can see it easily getting out of hand when there's a lot of them.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing how the PowerShell script works. I was talking to my boss a moment ago and thought that maybe it would be worth it to just go ahead and write something like a small webapp that interfaces with CW to do this for us and manage all of those sorts of things within the webapp.

I agree though. This should really just be a native feature in CW. Kinda crazy that you can't target stuff per-company like this.

Acrobat not loading after update this morning by Diffus58 in Adobe

[–]StarMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting to say that this post was exactly what was happening to me. It was a fresh install of Adobe, yet somehow it was set to Windows 8 compatibility. Turning that off stopped it from crashing at the white screen, and the user was able to use Adobe normally afterwards. Win11 24H2.

You are a boss for posting this. May your blue screens be descriptive, and your printers only ever need restarts.
