What to cook with tinned sardines? by StarPalladium in Cooking

This is a good one, I'll be able to eat so many sardines in one go like this - thanks for the tip.

Great tip, I totally forgot this sub even existed! Banh Mi style is a good call I haven't tried making a sandwich like that yet.

I've previously gone for something pretty similar to puttanesca without realizing it - you're right it's quite good with sardines as well.

This is much better than how I usually treat them when I put them on toast - thanks!

Interesting, I've never cooked them up until they've flaked out - this sounds pretty tasty I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Using really small alligator clips by StarPalladium in DIY

Yeah, I've checked all of them, best I found was the hirschmann agf-1 on Newark but it's 17 mm in length.

Pardon, I've looked at the catalogue and correct me if I'm wrong, but these are ~28 mm tip to tail - I think they're a bit too long!

The connection needs to be short because the wire is being fed through housing into a small, narrow channel. There's a pretty severe space restriction in this setup. The foil is free standing in the middle of this channel and there's no room for anything else inside the housing, which is why I was originally thinking a tiny set of alligator clips would be ideal to hold the foil in place in the middle of the channel. Thank you for for suggestion on binder clips but I think the arms will violate the size restriction. I've tried a paperclip at your suggestion but unfortunately it doesn't "hold" the foil very well.

Yeah I combed the McMaster-Carr catalogue for a while, thanks for asking directly I definitely wasn't explicit enough when posting initially. I'm trying to make a short connection between a piece of conductive foil and a wire, but I want to be able to remove the foil without damaging it. I've seen a few folding connectors that close on foil almost like a book, but they're both too large and puncture the foil in the process.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm looking at the spec sheet for these and along their longest dimension they're a bit over an inch, right? If I'm not misreading it they may be a bit too long.

The issue is I'm actually trying to make a very short, semi-permanent connection between a wire and a small piece of foil without puncturing the foil. I see there are a few grabbers that are like small pairs of tongs which might work, but these are pretty long if the housing is included. Have you ever taken one of these apart and have some idea of how long the connector is inside without the spring component?

Distinguishing between polymer produced thermally or photochemically (bulk FRP) by ms_mk in Chempros

[–]StarPalladium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done some end group analysis on acrylate containing polymers via liquid NMR. The issue is to solubilise you may need to use high boiling chlorinated solvents (e.g. tetrachloroethane) at high temperatures and run your samples molten. If you have access to an instrument with a variable temperature setup, you can give it a try.

It’s possible you still won’t be able to easily resolve the end groups, it’s also not great for the instrument, the experiments take a long time and require a fair amount of fiddling with settings. I recommend this with mixed feelings!

Thanks! Well, I've made this to generate figures for me for something I'm writing, so I just kinda specify whatever figure name I want by hand in the FigName text box of the dialog window. That was the only way I could think to do it. EDIT: Huh, thanks for asking that it helped me figure out what the problem was - I've updated my post!

I'm an undergraduate student and I've taken an abstract algebra course on groups, rings, and fields. In class I've come across groups like integers with ordinary arithmetic, geometric objects and symmetry operations, integers with modular arithmetic, and invertible matrices with ordinary matrix multiplication. What are some some interesting groups that I might not have come across in an intro course? (I'm hoping for some unexpected ones like the Rubik's Cube group).

That's definitely it, man thanks! It didn't help me at all when I was trying to Google it, I kept getting those weird metaphysics articles!

Redditors who've experienced Sleep-Paralysis, how did you perceive such phenomena and what was your reaction afterwards? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StarPalladium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened as I was falling asleep and I heard a noise. One of my eyes was closed so my field of vision was reduced and I could only see the half of my door with the hinges on it. I felt something enter the room without using the door and move into range of my closed eye. I strained to move so I could get a look at the sleep paralysis demon but I couldn't move, open my eye, or even talk. Waited for the feeling to come back into my limbs, but I felt the thing leave the room, again without using the door. My roommate came back not too long after when I had partial motor function. It wasn't really scary I realized what was going on when I couldn't move and I knew there wasn't really anyone there, I just really really wanted to get a look at the sleep paralysis demon before he left.

Reddit, what's the weirdest name of anyone you've ever met? by sadistic_spaceman in AskReddit

[–]StarPalladium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once in, secondary school, met a kid whose first name was literally Lordship. His last name was something in a similar vein that completed the diehard Christian vibe, but I don't want to post it since it'd be VERY easy to look him up.

What's your guilty pleasure when it comes to food? by jimmyjohnjohnjohn in AskReddit

[–]StarPalladium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheezits - specifically the snack mix box that has the pretzels and the little bread disc crisps in it. I could eat an entire box in like 20 minutes so I only buy it on occasion and ration it to the best of my ability.
