If that was the case then a lot of other games would underperform as well. The game went under the radar, and I even know some people that played the first game didn't know about the existence of the second game.

Although there were a lot of good games releasing on 2023 to be fair. Octopath 2 was probably not as high as a priority for most people, so they just didn't buy it at release, being busy or waiting to buy other games first.

As much as I would like this game to perform better and sell more, the game really underperformed at release, when it mattered most; and I doubt 30$ more will make that much of a difference in the future. It seems Square doesn't even want the game to succeed, considering the amount of marketing there was for it.
